”Of course. Get back into your shooting position, but don’t pull the string back just yet. "
Anton did as he was instructed, trying to pay attention to his grip and do as he was told last time. The flood of information was definitely slightly overwhelming, but if Anton decided to continue this, he could easily focus on one thing at a time then and there. Kaelan was most likely just making sure that Anton got the basics, so they could go over what ever they needed to do.
“First off, when you hold the bow, hold it lightly, just enough to prevent it from falling from your grasp it when you shoot. Secondly, use your back muscles to pull back the string, not your arm. If you use your arm, you tire more quickly and can’t let off as many shots.”
Anton nodded slightly and tried to hold the bow like he said. It was weird, trying to hold a bow "lightly". He wanted to grasp it and make sure that it wasn't going to fall, but he tried to keep his arm from being too tight. It was definitely a learned behaviour, Anton decided. "I take it the bow-holding is to make sure you don't get tired or cramp?"
There was a lot of focus on keeping the shooter from getting tired, which was probably smart. The bows were definitely a bit heavy -- nothing that Anton couldn't lift, but a weight that would tire your arms after a few hours of holding it. Not to mention your forearms could start to cramp if your grasp was too tight. Being a weapon, you needed to be able to use it any time you needed it.
To slightly understand what Kaelan meant by the the muscles, he pulled the string back normally. Then he tried to find his back muscles and use those to pull the string back. It was a weird feeling, and Anton was far from successful with his small experiment, but the concept he understood, so he could definitely practice it.
After fiddling with pulling the string, Anton looked at Kaelan, still holding the bow. He told himself that he wasn't going to be direct about it, but he still wanted to know. He was rather enjoying Kaelan's company. Kaelan was quiet -- not a bad quiet where you felt the person judging you, but a quiet where the person said only what they felt was important. It was a very nice quiet indeed.
Then again, he suppose he should wait for Kaelan to make some type of a move about this. It was his lesson, after all. Anton was the student who had pissed him off earlier, and was now simply trying to enjoy the man's presence without touching anything else sensitive. There was definitely something enjoyable about Kaelan, and Anton would hate to lose him to such a stupid mistake.
