Talk about fish out of water.
Seriously...what am I doing here?
The question of 'how' was relatively simple enough, and Kai's plan had worked without a hitch; meet Kai by the airship docks - check, aquire engineer clothes -check, hop aboard one the ships heading to the Drakonborg -check, get onboard without anyone noticing - check. Easy peasy simple pimple. Only...now that he was here, he had absolutely no idea what to do with himself.
Athuraadd -who was absolutely 100% NOT a Drakonrhedi - found himself sitting in the quarters of his utterly and truly, positively, undeniably Drakonrhedi friend, who, at the present time, was nowhere to be seen. Athie suspected he was on a mission or something, but wherever he was, it wasn't here. The little viking sat at the edge of Kai's bed, looking nervously about the room he was occupying. He daren't touch anything, so his normally overly touchy-freely hands were placed firmly in his lap.
Previously, of course, the whole 'wahey let's go aboard the Drakonborg' had seemed like a great idea, Athie couldn't wait, in fact. He had already mentally penned the letter he was going to write to his family back home, something along the lines of 'Guess who's on the Drakonborg. Lots of love, Athie The-Canon-Fodder xoxoxoxo'.
The inward letter had now somewhat changed; 'Please come get me. I want to go home now.'
No! You're being stupid. It's fine! Just stay in here, wait for Kai.
"Stay in here, wait for Kai." he repeated aloud, just to confirm the statement.
Good lad.
His stomach gave a rumble and Athie blinked in surprise. That's right; he hadn't eaten since yesterday, and his gut was beginning to cotton onto that fact. He reached across to his satchel (and it's probably worth mentioning that he'd slipped back into his normal attire by this point) and rummaged through it's contents; nothing. Not a crumb.
Another hungry grumble.
Athie gave a quick look around the room, but bit his lip when he realised he'd secretly sworn to himself that he wouldn't touch anything, desperate for Kai to know that he could leave the little viking by himself and not have him mess his things up.
A thought occured; they must have something to eat upon this ship, a mess hall, a food court, a pantry, anything. Athie wasn't picky in the food department, true he knew how to make an excellent dish, but he was fairly indifferent when it came to his own eating standards.
Gingerly, he stood up and made his way to the door. A shaky hand proceeded forwards and hovered above the handle, as if the thing was red hot. Quietly and gently, Athie turned the device and heard with a wince as the door clicked open.
Oh gods oh gods oh gods oh gods
What if someone saw him creep out? What is someone recognised that he was definitely NOT Kai Raske? What if they had one of those flying flappy fluffy lizard things with them- oh gods Bravery, Athie! Your brothers could do this, suck it up!
The door opened slowly with a creak that Athie figured was waaaaay too loud, but gently tip-toed out all the same. He made sure to leave his satchel in the room, thinking it to be safe and supposing he probably wouldn't need it.
With a gulp, he surveyed up and down the corridor. Empty. Not a soul. A long sigh of relief flowed him Athie's dry lips, and he allowed his body to relax for the first time in a long time. However it quickly tensed again as Athie realised he had no bloody clue where he was going.
"Damn it..." he whimpered, back edging up to the wall as he frantically looked for any kind of indication of where he was, but it was lost on him. He needed to find someway of getting to his chosen destination before the wrong person found him.
"If I had a guardian angel," he began in a desperate whisper, eyes looking up to the ceiling as if he could see through into the heavens, "-now would be a great time to get your arse on down and give me a hand...please?"
He figured maybe his guardian angel was just suffering from work related stress.

The trip had gone rather smoothly. Probably a thousand times more smoothly than Kai had expected. You know, he would have assumed that the people who flew these ships at least looked at the faces of their engineers, but apparently not. If Kai was any good at joking with professionals, he would definitely shame them for their lack of security. But only jokingly. Then again, it might be a bad plan to tell people he was hoarding an illegal passenger. At the moment, Kai was having trouble getting back to his room. He had expected that Kai and Athie would end up separated, since engineers and Drakonrhedi don't typically hang out while they're both supposed to be working. (Perhaps the Vyrrsons would like to disagree.) Kai told Athie the way to his room, hoping it was at least direct enough that Athie would be able to be in the general region if worst came to worst. While Kai had expected to be able to just peel away from everyone else and get to his room, a lovely Pryfektus decided to single him out to grab some things for him. Of course, it wasn't like these were things far enough so that Kai could sneak his way to the room, oh no. They were perhaps thirty second journeys, and damn annoying ones at that. Supposedly the Pryfektus was asking Kai in particular because the rest of the Drakonrhedi had important things to do. Kai called bullshit on that, but he wasn't about to say such a thing to his superior. Perhaps five minutes passed of these meaningless tasks before Kai finally decided to step up and get away with a couple of lies. Ah, how he hoped that he wasn't found out about this. Ah, well. Enough risks had been taken already, what was one more? "Ahem, sir?" Kai said happily, looking up at the venerable man. He was perhaps in his forties, greying hair, and arms that looked like they could strangle the life out of you. He was nice, though. Scary and nice. Not a fun combo. "Yes, what is it?" the man asked. As nice as he looked, he still spoke quickly, as if he didn't have enough time to do everything. Kai could respect that: there never was enough time to do everything. At least, when you were busy. Other times it felt so disastrously empty. "I have a meeting with a certain Tiro in a couple of minutes, uh, and while I certainly don't mean to inconvenience you, I don't want to let my apprentice down either. I'm terribly sorry, but I need to keep this commitment." The lie came out with just a bit of uncertainty, as he couldn't be completely sure of himself. Oh, no. The higher-ups didn't like it when you so callously disregarded their knowledge, power, and their respectful position. Perhaps Kai could have been more subtle about the fact that he was trying to leave, but considering how long it had been.. Well, he was more than worried that Kai had forgotten to get off the ship and was about to be en route to a dismal village that the Wulfing clan had claimed a while back. That was unlikely, yes, but he had to expect the worst, no? Or perhaps he was even caught by a Pryfektus or Vetr, and Kai was being ratted out and would be punished horribly for it. (Punished horribly was dependent upon the crime, but for one such as this... It could be severe.) "I understand. You may leave. I appreciate the help you've given me," the man said, quickly turning to deal with the even greater amount of work he had to do. In a way, Kai felt bad to abandon him like that. But that part of his brain was being squashed by all the others. With a breath, Kai found his way to below the deck. His room was just a bit away and he certainly hoped to every god out there that he didn't run into anyone else that would take up more of his time. That would definitely be the opposite of what he was looking for. Finally, he was almost there. Just one more turn and he would be there. Of course, Kai didn't feel any more relief. He was almost hesitant to go forward -- what if Athie wasn't there? What if he had already left? Or never got on board at all? That would definitely be problematic. And Kai would hold himself personally responsible for any harm that came to Athie. All of this was, after all, his idea. With a gulp, he turned the corner, and saw Athie. But Athie seemed to be in not the best of conditions. His back was against the wall and his eyes were up to the ceiling, and he seemed to be almost buckling under some type of stress. "Hey, Athie," Kai said smiling. "Everything all right? Let's step into my room, all right? I don't want to be spotted by anyone..." The more that Kai thought about it, the more he realized that was completely impossible. Athie would be found, and he needed a good excuse, and he needed it... Well, as soon as Athie was found. |

- - Masquerade, a mask of steel; winding life onto the reel - - "Patrolling the corridor" was one way of putting it. "Avoiding that twerp of a Tiro who won't leave me alone" was more accurate.
Uri, did we ever finish that Shakespeare play? She asked.
Which one?
Macbeth.
We finished it last week, mistress.
It was stupid. But at least if we read that stuff, we can know what the hell Vyrrson is on about.
I don't know if he entirely knows what he's on about, mistress. Perhaps you could get him to stage a play for you? I am sure Puck would be delighted to help out.
Zsasilda couldn't help but chuckle quietly to herself.
It would be hugely entertaining, Uri. Maybe we could join in. I would make a most excellent Lady Macbeth.
She struck a dramatic pose, arms raised for no particular reason whatsoever; before she lowered them and frowned. A Drakonrhedi whom she vaguely recognised- Iduneus, maybe?- was speaking to a stranger in the corridor up ahead. Who was this stranger? Perhaps he had just returned from some extended venture.
Do we recognise him, Uri?
No, mistress. We recognise the other, but we don't know either of their names.
Hmm. Annoying. Well, let's go the long way around. No sense indulging in pointless small talk with such low-ranking humans.
Indeed.
With that, she stepped into a side corridor; only becoming aware of footsteps approaching from elsewhere when Uri alerted her to the fact. Annoyed at the potential opportunity for more social interaction, Zsasilda pressed herself back against the wall and waited for the newcomer to pass.

The Vetr Vyrrson was not necessarily in a good mood.
Heavy casualties from a village in the last raid--mostly because some young and stupid warriors had decided they wanted to take on several kanpolu alongside the Drakonrhedi, despite the Vetr's command otherwise. Their foolish maneuver had made it impossible for any of the Drakonrhedi's ranged support to actually function effectively for the battle, as they couldn't risk hitting a civilian casualty. With the ranged support removed, the fight had become a good bit harder than it should have been. Cedric couldn't cloak himself during the day, so he'd been forced to do things a much harder way.
Everyone had walked away from that battle frustrated or depressed or wounded or dead.
To be honest, at this point Cedric had no clue how he'd walked away unscathed from so many battles. He just had to attribute it to the possibility that maybe he did have some sort of talent, as a man who held the position of Vetr was supposed to.
So now, he was wandering the less frequented areas of the Drakonborg (comparatively), wondering if the blood on his coat was human or behemoth. It was damn hard to tell after a certain point.
He was also well aware that the fluid had somehow managed to get on his face and chest--although it was splattered in a way that did not indicate he might have been wounded. It instead was just a bother, and he hadn't had a chance to wash up yet. Never mind the fact that one of his gunblades was snapped. He'd need to use a backup until he could get his brother to fix this one.
"Hey, Athie."
Cedric froze, frowning slightly and backpedaling to the intersection he'd just heard the voice coming from. Perhaps around the next bend? He stalked forward, increasingly curious.
"Everything all right? Let's step into my room, all right? I don't want to be spotted by anyone..."
He increased his pace, dyed blue eyebrow raising. Was Athie--more specifically, the Athie he knew--on the Drakonborg? Why?
A grin flickered over his face as mischief came to mind.
Drawing his unbroken gunblade, he glanced down at the bloodied blade. Perfect, perfect. He put on his best scowl, prepared for this particular round of mischief-making. Rounding the corner, he came upon--
Oh, yes, this was his Athie indeed.
His visage immediately darkened even further, the bloodstained blade hanging menacingly at his side.
And who was Athie's conspirator? He scanned the man's face quickly, coming up with a name quickly enough. An Iduneus. Kai Raske.
"Iduneus Raske," he began, voice a dangerous mix between a growl and a hiss that could only indicate a displeased Vetr. A very, very displeased Vetr, who was currently armed and already prepped for killing.
He didn't think it could get any more perfect when suddenly an angular, familiar, furry head poked around the opening in the corridor behind him.
Blast it, Puck, how did you get down here again? he quietly asked to himself, exasperated. His drake had shown all signs of being worried about his rider's mental condition, which usually meant that Puck would get into more trouble in order to draw attention to himself before promptly spending any time he was supposedly being chastised attempting to lick Cedric's face and cuddle him.
However, this time around, the drake's timing was perfect. Picking up on his master's mood immediately, Puck shuffled his wings and stalked into the corridor, filling up the entire space even though he kept the flying limbs pinned pretty tightly to his sides. Slowly, he came closer, like a cat watch its helpless prey. A tongue snaked out from his mouth to taste the air like a snake, and his jaw opened slightly, displaying a dazzling array of teeth.
"And who would this visitor be?" the Vetr inquired dangerously, quietly singing in joy at how terribly well this all had fallen together. "Not sneaking aboard unregistered, disguised little stowaways, are we?"
Cedric turned his stone-cold gaze to Athie, eyes narrowing as Puck let out another rumble. The poor lad had looked traumatized enough. Of course, Cedric was fairly certain that the punchline would make it all well worth it.
His head tilted slowly to the side as he scrutinized the poor viking. "Athuraadd," he greeted the lad icily.

I should go...I should maybe - maybe...I could...um
By this point, Athie was looking around frantically, feet jumping with spooked, springy motions as he tried to figure out his next path of choice. He gulped hard and ran a hand through his floppy, brown tumble of hair, feeling more trapped than a rat in a terrier pit.
Are those footsteps?
The unmistakable heavy thuds increasing in volume confirmed his fears. Someone was coming closer. Someone who probably wouldn't take too kindly to Athie's presence. Athie let out a squeak and tried to double back to the door.
Next time, I'm taking people back to MY home.
Athie gripped the doorknob hurriedly and tried to rattle the door open, but the damn thing decided to jam with his frantic movements. Athie let out a desperate groan, "Come on, you little bas-"
"Hey, Athie,"
Athie's yelp of surprise was quickly proceeded with a sigh of relief as he turned to find Kai standing behind him with a smile. He felt himself relax and clutched his hand to his chest, "You scared me!" he exclaimed, but returned a warm grin so Kai wouldn't think he'd done any wrongdoing, Athie was incredibly pleased to see him, after all.
"Everything all right? Let's step into my room, all right? I don't want to be spotted by anyone..."
Athie nodded dumbly, but another grumble from his stomach suddenly readdressed his previous concerns, "I..erm, I was a little hungry, and I didn't want to go rummaging through your things so I thought maybe..." He trailed off and bit his lip, followed shortly after by a characteristically sheepish smile, "...probably wasn't the best idea actually."
Suddenly there was another set of footsteps from up ahead and Athie's head snapped up to look behind his companion to locate the source of the sound. He thought he saw someone further down the corridor, a female figure, but almost as quickly as he'd seen her, she had escaped his view, probably going down another corridor or into a room. Whatever the case, at least she wasn't about to pounce on them.
Being highly sociable in nature, Athie almost wished he could meet some new faces, talk a little with these Drakonrhedi, learn a little more about who they were or what they did. But fear stayed his usually chatty tongue, that, and the fact he'd probably be chucked off the side of the ship if anyone discovered him.
Still, he was in safe hands with Kai, everything was going to be-
"And who would this visitor be? Not sneaking aboard unregistered, disguised little stowaways, are we?"
Athie felt the blood drain from his face and his muscles seize up, locking him in place on the spot.
Bollocks- would be a good word for the current situation.
When he finally dared himself to turn, he found he was standing in the towering presence of another, but less-than-impressed Drakonrhedi. The man's face was rigid with a firm scowl, his features darkened and eyes ablaze with -what Athie could only assume was- anger.
Too frightened to even let out an 'eep', Athie gave another choked gulp, only just realizing now that his legs were shaking and-
Oh my gods what is that-
There was a huge, dark beast standing directly behind the fierce newcomer, and Athie immediately registered it to be a drake, although it didn't mean he was anymore pleased to see it. The creature's lips were pulled back to reveal a glimmering set of powerfully sharp teeth, its jaw rumbling with a steady growl. Both man and and beast possessed the same deadly countenance, and Athie was beginning to feel his legs weak.
Don't fain don't faint don't faint don't faint don't faint-
"Athuraadd,"
Slump.
It was Athie's backside that made contact with the floor first, but his head whacked the wall shortly after, gravity and a whole mixture of emotions deciding the best place for Athie's body was definitely the floor space. Which was good; there were less pissed off Drakonrhedi and fluffy lizard things down here.
It was in that brief moment that Athie decided to scrap the whole 'writing a letter home to the family' thing entirely. They didn't need to know about this.
Athie remained fully conscious, fainting only in the sense that his mind was now a frantic, confused jumble -even more so than usual.
This man knew his name. But how? Athie had never seen this man in his entire life. Maybe he was from Armfastrung? A face from Athie's childhood that remembered him but such recollection wasn't returned on Athie's part.
It would probably help if Athie was actually looking at the gentleman, but his own sense of panic forbade it, choosing rather to fearfully look up at Kai in desperation. He wanted to find out how this man knew him, but couldn't will the words to surface.

"I..erm, I was a little hungry, and I didn't want to go rummaging through your things so I thought maybe..." Athie bit his lip but gave a sheepish smile that was so characteristic of him. Hell, even Kai recognized the smile after only a few days of knowing him. "Probably wasn't the best idea actually."It wasn't the best idea, not at all. But, in Kai's weird mind, there was no such thing as a "best idea" and "worst idea". There were simply ideas. Sure, knowledge of your surroundings could help you see the outcomes, but at the end of the day, you can only do what you can do, and there is no right or wrong decision. Make a decision and live with it. Or, in the less fun way to think about it: make a decision and die with it. Kai simply felt that Athie had made a decision, and he was more than glad that it didn't end with anything bad. Even if it did, that would be okay. Because it was only what it was, and there was nothing more to it than the situation at hand. Of course, even if Kai could tell himself all of this right now, when he had to make a decision between two people who were dying... Let's just say that there's a reason he believes so strongly in his decisions. Leaning down, Kai gave a soft smile. "Don't worry about it, all that we ne--" But he was cut off. And not by something pleasant, nor something welcomed. Oh, no, he was interrupted by the quick gasp from Athie, a clear sign that something was wrong. Before Kai had the mental capacity to tell his head to move, the voice already slipped out of the Vetr's mouth and clawed into Kai's back. Time to live and die with his decisions. "Iduneus Raske." The voice was like the roots of a tree, grabbing you and pinning you down, with all its force upon you. Oh, yes. Kai knew that voice. But he didn't place it until he saw the most obvious feature of the man: his bright, blue hair. Vetr Cedric Vyrrson. Known for his antics and crazy postures, he was also well known for being a Vetr. And even if he joked, that didn't mean he wasn't one of the most, if not the most, capable on this ship. "Sir." Not even a question came from Kai's mouth. He knew exactly what he had done that was wrong. He knew exactly how displeased the Vetr was, and more than anything, he knew that if he didn't play his cards just right, he could definitely lose his life right now. Time to live and hopefully not die with my decisions. In hindsight, perhaps this wasn't the best... Ah, well. Have to give the rest of it my best. The Vetr's drake came to rest next to him, looking into the scene with a ferocity that Kai knew well. Perhaps it wasn't a ferocity where the drake was ready to kill, but it was a ferocity where the drake would go if the rider so much as even twitched towards the fight. Of course, it was different for every pair. The subtle differences in body language was the true connection between drake and rider, and how they could so clearly interpret each other. "And who would this visitor be? Not sneaking aboard unregistered, disguised little stowaways, are we?" His voice was singing a beautiful melody that his body danced to. Except the beauty was horror: it was the iciness of harsh winter, and it was piercing through Kai's body. Vetr... of the Stalkers. "Athuraadd."Kai took a breath and let it go, he had to speak now, and fast. "Sir, these are--"Apparently Athie had decided that it wasn't the time to speak. The poor man sunk to the floor, seemingly having fainted, and Kai definitely felt the need to help. A mental checklist was rushing through Kai's mind as he wrapped his arms around Athie. "Sir, I will explain everything as soon as I get Athie somewhere to rest and make sure that he is safe." The words flew out of Kai's mouth, his training as a medic being more important than anything to him. Well. No. Not exactly. To him, Athie's condition was purely his fault. If he had gone about convincing Athie to explore in a normal, sane way, he would not be in this position. Even if he could put more superficial blame on Cedric or others, the fault still came down to Kai. And he would everything in his power to make sure that he could avoid any harm to Athie -- whether emotional or physical. This was supposed to be fun, but Kai did not think of the risks. He had to live with his decisions, and that meant doing something about the current moment. "I'm going to bring him into my room, rest him on the bed, and make sure that he's okay. We can speak after that." Kai grunted and picked Athie up. In reality, Athie wasn't too heavy whatsoever, but he was heavier than Kai had expected. Kai expected Athie to be a skinny little fellow with not much to him besides a beautiful personality and ravenous curiosity. But, oh no, this man most definitely had a bit of muscle. And it was a fair bit of muscle too -- he could maybe fight someone if he dared to and was trained. Of course, a soldier would easily be able to fight his way through Athie's defenses, but... The potential was most definitely there. So why is Athie so scared of everything? He may not be as naturally tall or strong as other people... But that doesn't mean he doesn't have potential. He said he can cook and be a medic, I think that he might be able to be an apothecary or something. He knows his way around more herbs than I do -- for cooking and healing probably. But he had little time to mull these thoughts over. He grabbed a jar that contained some water and poured it into a cup. (He kept various materials in his room, and water was such a vital thing for so much, he thought he should keep some around him.) "Here, Athie. I'll be right back... I need to talk to Vetr Vyrrson."Outside the room, of course. There was no point stressing Athie out even more. Kai nodded to the door and stepped out, where he took the briefest of pauses to compose himself. Not much point delaying though. Patience was probably already thin. "Sir, I brought Athuraadd on board the Drakonborg illegally and without anyone permission. If possible, I would like to make sure that he is safe before I receive any punishment. At least let me do this duty for him."Stiff formality did not suit Kai. |

- - Masquerade, a mask of steel; winding life onto the reel - - It was her mentor.
Zsasilda was taken aback by his appearance. He passed by her hiding place, apparently too fixated on the pair up ahead to notice. Blood splattered his features and stained his clothes, and it took some rapid discussion with Uri and analysis of his gait to conclude that he himself was most probably not injured, or at least not seriously. Still, his appearance was unsettling. She cautiously leaned forward, keeping him in sight as he made his way towards the men in the corridor up ahead.
"Iduneus Raske."
Maybe we should get out of here. He does not sound pleased.
Uri, quiet. We can take him, and in any case, we could just pretend that we happened to be walking by. But he's got his back to us at present, and I don't think that he's very likely to notice me.
Alright then, mistress.
A furry creature emerged from the next junction along, stalking cat-like towards the assembled trio. The Iduneus Raske was not saying very much, Zsasilda noted; and the stranger was not saying anything at all. He did look rather pale though, from what she glimpsed of him past Puck and his master. The drake's change in attitude especially threw Zsasilda, who was used to seeing him playful and irresponsible. She wondered what the anxious pair could have done to affect him so. Was it something to do with all that blood?
I wonder what he's going to do with them, Uri?
Depends on what they've done. Broken some rule, it would appear.
"Not sneaking aboard unregistered, disguised little stowaways, are we?"
Ah. There we have it.
Unregistered.
What an idiot.
He is a human, mistress.
Well yes, but I meant relatively speaking, of course.
Zsasilda withdrew further into the side corridor, aware that in her curiousity she had emerged further out of it than was probably wise. The slight movement meant that she didn't see the taller of the two unfortunate men suddenly collapse to the ground, as Puck was then blocking her view.
Uri, what happened? She asked, even as she realised herself.
He may have fainted.
Hmm yes. Raske is taking him away now. This is really not very exciting, I'm sure we can find better things to do.
You want to see what Vyrrson does next though, don't you?
What can I say? He is my personal project. Certainly more fascinating than that...what's his name...the short one with the missing eye. Christophe? I think one of our comrades tried to study him once. Got terribly bored.
The OAI involved actually threatened to drive his host insane if she persisted with the project.
Yes indeed, it was most amusing, and she will never live it down.
She leaned forward a little further despite Uri's protests, curious as to what would happen next.
Besides Uri, if he realises that someone's here I'll just turn into that Thalia girl.
There are many ways that could go wrong, mistress. Would you like me to list a few?

Thump.
Athie toppled to the ground, and Cedric had to hold his breath to stop himself from bursting into laughter.
This wasn't the first time one of his pranks had caused a fainting, and every time, his reaction was probably about as inappropriate as the prank that had caused it. He couldn't help but enjoy slapstick humor, after all. And other types of humor, including (but not limited to) fooling people, acting like a prick, babbling out Shakespeare, and lighting live behemoths on fire.
However, it seemed as if all of his poor audience was fooled. It couldn't be said that the Vetr was a bad actor: Kai's terrified "Sir" proved that.
"Sir, I will explain everything as soon as I get Athie somewhere to rest and make sure that he is safe."
Aww, how very sweet of you. I'll have to recommend you to Talithe.
Cedric gave an unimpressed grunt. "You had best have an excellent reason for this, Iduneus."
"I'm going to bring him into my room, rest him on the bed, and make sure that he's okay. We can speak after that."
Puck rumbled to emphasize the Vetr's dark countenance. "Very well," he hissed.
As Kai disappeared into his room, carrying the traumatized Athie, both Cedric and Puck simultaneously dropped the act and glanced at each other, Ced biting his lips to try and hide his grin as the drake's fins went from streamlined and aggressive to puffed up and goofy.
"I'm blaming that one on you," Ced muttered, elbowing his companion and sheathing his blade. "You're not even supposed to be down here. And look at what you've done! You've scared the piss out of him, you big meany."
Puck made a very quiet, happy warbling noise from within his throat.
With that, the two once again assumed their act, and Cedric stalked darkly down the hall towards Kai's room just as the Iduneus came back out, Puck prowling behind him, head lowered like a hunting jaguar.
"Sir, I brought Athuraadd on board the Drakonborg illegally and without anyone permission. If possible, I would like to make sure that he is safe before I receive any punishment. At least let me do this duty for him."
Cedric, once again, could barely contain his amusement at this Iduneus' super serious countenance.
"Noble," he began, sounding most unimpressed and aristocratic. "I-"
There was a little warble from beside him.
Cedric sighed and glanced at Puck, who was looking far too pleased with himself. The Vetr rolled his eyes, looking exasperated. Holding out a finger towards Kai in the symbol for "one second," he turned to his partner, speaking to him in a terse half-whisper. Why bother? The gig was up.
"Really? Really? I'm in the middle of an act and you just can't handle the joke anymore? Puck, we're trying to pull a prank here, not give ourselve-"
He was broken off as Puck opened his mouth and gave a happy rumble, launching forward to send his blue-haired master careening into Kai's room and attempting to give the Iduneus himself a giant drake kiss all alongside his face.
Cedric spun around just as Puck barreled towards the door.
"Fffff...PUCK!"
The drake managed to squeeze his considerable bulk through the portal, wiggling through with much overjoyed snorting and thrashing into Kai's quarters.
"Oh gods no no don't hit that PUCK you fiend-"
The Vetr lunged forward, grabbing the drake's flailing tail and holding onto it as it wriggled around like a fish in his arms.
"Puck calm down and get away from-"
With no heed whatsoever to his master's words, the drake bounced up to where Athie lay in the bed and, with eyes gleaming happily, licked him right up the side of his face in a big, wet, loving drake kiss.
"-BAD DRAKE!"
Puck purred and warbled, backing up slightly to allow his master to come up to the bed.
Cedric had lost all of his remaining act, darting up to wrap one arm around the drake's head in an attempt to keep him under control, the other arm waving apologetically at Athie as Puck twisted in his grasp.
"Gods, I'm so sorry. I must be a bad luck charm to you or something."
Puck, meanwhile, twisted his head sideways in an attempt to wriggle out of Cedric's headlock. Finding his efforts futile, he simply sat there with a sideways head, eyes staring at Athie and tongue lolling out of one side of his mouth.
"I swear--Puck, bad--last time a sprained wrist, and now this."
Leaning back slightly, much to the obvious alarm of Puck, who warbled as his neck was bent awkwardly backwards, Cedric glanced around for Kai.
"Iduneus. How did you manage to convince little Athie to wander into a drake-infested, warrior-filled flying ship?" he inquired with a grin. "By the way, you think he needs to go to the Infirmary? I can stick him in the high-priority ward or whatever."

Moments after Athie had fallen, Kai had rushed in and wrapped an arm around his shaking figure.
"Sir, I will explain everything as soon as I get Athie somewhere to rest and make sure that he is safe."
"You had best have an excellent reason for this, Iduneus."
The two men were speaking above him, but Athie was still numb with shock, so the words simply glossed over his head without him taking any real meaning from it. The weight of the adrenaline rush had caused his head to slump against the wall, limbs falling loose and placid. He couldn't think properly; the shock of everything seemingly colliding together at once was just simply too much for his brain.
How did this man know him?
Athie was certain he didn't remember his face. Piercing eyes, bright blue hair, you couldn't forget such a vivid appearance in a hurry. Athie's own appearance was hardly striking, and yet, this man spoke his name with such clearness and familiarity, as if he'd spoken his name many times before.
"I'm going to bring him into my room, rest him on the bed, and make sure that he's okay. We can speak after that."
Athie's thoughts were suddenly broken short when he felt Kai slip another arm underneath his weight before hoisting him swiftly up into the air. Athie let out a small and barely audible whimper, purely from surprise at being lifted, but he was thankful to Kai for moving away from the scene nonetheless, and instinctively burrowed his head into the fabric of the Drakonrhedi's uniform, as if to escape the towering presence of the angered newcomer and his fearsome pet.
In a matter of moments, Kai had carried him into his quarters and set him down gently on his bed, and Athie felt himself sink into the soft embrace of the mattress almost immediately. It was certainly a welcome change of scenery. A soft sigh of relief escaped Athie's slightly parted lips, but the noise quickly descended into a groan as Athie brought both hands up to his now slightly pink face, "I can't believe I fainted." he mumbled, words muffled by his hands.
Of course, he could believe he fainted, as it was a very Athie thing to do - even he knew that.
Kai had been burrowing through his things around him, and Athie's created a crack through two of his fingers allowing him a view of what his friend was doing. A glass of water had materialized beside the bed.
"Here, Athie. I'll be right back... I need to talk to Vetr Vyrrson."
Athie swallowed hard, his mouth dry and his limbs still a little floppy, but he gave a weak nod to Kai all the same, just to confirm he was still capably of a response, even though such an ability was wearing thin at the present time.
Kai left the room, and shortly after the sound of muffled voices seeped into Athie's ears, although he had no clue what it was they were saying. The sudden solitude gave Athie a chance to clear his mind and refresh his senses. Although he desperately wanted to find out how the blue-haired individual knew him, he was perfectly content to hide away like a mouse in a hole, safe inside Kai's quarters.
Thinking that water would indeed be a very good idea at the moment, Athie slowly sat up, his back now resting against the headboard of Kai's bed. With a slightly unsteady hand, he reached forward and took the glass into his slightly sweaty palms and brought the glass to his lips, taking extra care not to spill any of the liquid on Kai's bed.
Such care was soon thrown straight out the window.
The sounds of a sudden commotion came from outside, but Athie hadn't registered the disruption before it was too late. Suddenly the blue-haired man, known now by as Vetr Vyrrson came barging into the room.
"Fffff...PUCK!"
Athie's eyes had been closed when he went to take a sip of water, but at the sudden enraged address he snapped them open, lips still fastened to the edge of his glass, water still tricking gently down his throat. At the sudden arrival of Vyrrson, a bemused, slightly surprised expression plastered his face, but that was nothing compared the reaction he gave next.
Suddenly, the huge beast that had accompanied Vyrrson outside propelled himself into the room with unbridled energy, despite the wishes of his master.
Athie was quite sure how much water ejected from his mouth, but he was damn sure there was a lot of it.
Viking-style water fountain complete, Athie momentarily regained his sense and slammed the half empty glass back onto the bedside cabinet and let out a frantic squeak as the drake was apparently not content with just being inside the room with them.
"Puck calm down and get away from-"
To Athie's horror, the creature turned and bounded towards him. A startled gasp ripped itself from his lungs as he quickly backed himself up against both the headboard of Kai's bed and the wall behind it. "Nononononononononono," came the hurried words spluttering from Athie's lips like a mantra, but his protests were futile. Before he could anything, the creature was on him and Athie's muscles clenched hard, face creasing into a wince so strong his face felt like it was about to implode. He eyes squeezed shut just as the beast opened its great jaws and-
Licked him?
The sudden wet contact earned a rather shrill yelp from Athie's throat, caught off guard by the unexpected gesture.
"-BAD DRAKE! Gods, I'm so sorry. I must be a bad luck charm to you or something.""
One of Athie's eyes cracked open a fraction, and was greeted with the sight of a creature who was obviously not possessed with the desire to eat him. Rather, there sat before him a creature who had an unmistakably dog-like countenance to its being; playful and cheery, as evident with the lolling tongue and gleaming eyes that bore no anger. The Vetr had tried to keep him subdued, but the drake had wriggled free from his grasp, and resumed its gentle panting, and Athie took it to be totally relaxed and - in a strange sense- rather welcoming.
He blinked at the creature, his own breaths still falling uneven and ragged as he tried to come to terms with the sudden change in his perspective of the creature. The beast was actually sort of...cute. A proper flappy, fluffy lizard thing. Almost huggable, but Athie wasn't quite at that stage yet. Instead, one of his hands that had flown up in shock when the drake had advanced upon him suddenly curled a little to form a small wave, as he gulped again and gave the tiniest of sweet smiles.
"I swear--Puck, bad--last time a sprained wrist, and now this."
Athie stopped mid-wave and gave a rather indignant (but childish) pout, sheltering his once injured wrist away from the man's prying eyes, "I'll have you know it was merely a bump and-"
Wait a second.
Wait a blue-haired-gentleman-who-you've-never-seen-before-and-yet-he-knows-a-damn-sight-more-than-he-should second.
A coy look came over Athie's face, his head tilting to the side as he assessed Vyrrson. There was only two people in the whole world (or three if you count the apothecary) who knew about Athie's sprained wrist. One of them had blue hair, true, but he certainly wasn't standing here before him. The other man, well, Athie hadn't seen him since that night, but there was no way-
"Iduneus. How did you manage to convince little Athie to wander into a drake-infested, warrior-filled flying ship?" The way Vyrrson spoke, it was in a kind of way that indicated that he knew how ridiculously crap Athie was at coping with any real sort of stressful situation or environment. Athie felt his mouth go dry (again).
"....Alvis?" His voice came cracked, high-pitched, disbelieving. This couldn't be the Alvis he'd met all those nights ago, the same Alvis who had saved him from a particularly horrendous situation involving a gaggle of drunk vikings, the same Alvis who Athie was certain was...capable of magic.
Oh shit.

The atmosphere was tense for Kai. He had to worry about Athie, but he also had to convince the Vetr to let him worry about Athie. And he couldn't even begin to think about how terrible he would feel if he couldn't care for Athie; he would probably just keel over and die right there. Kai had a thing about taking care of people. "Noble. I--" Cedric began. He was interrupted by something entirely, entirely unexpected from his Drake: a soft warbling sound that mimicked a purr but was a bit different. Kai knew this sound well, as it was the sound of a very happy Drake. And Puck didn't look happy before this, so why was he happy? ""Really? Really? I'm in the middle of an act and you just can't handle the joke anymore? Puck, we're trying to pull a prank here, not give ourselve-"What? Before Kai could attempt to process the revelations that currently made no sense to him, there was a very large tongue sliding across his face. "Oh." From what Kai could gather, there was a very happy Drake and a not so upset Vetr in front of him. Unless, of course, the Vetr was upset but he was hiding it. Or perhaps he was faking-- Yes. Cedric was well known for his antics, and apparently all of this had just been another one of those terrible jokes. Kai silently cursed himself for falling prey to it, but he didn't have time to be upset at himself. There was currently a wild Puck on the loose, barreling straight into Kai's room. How the hell did he manage to slip himself through that tiny door? Kai wondered to himself. Puck was, all things considered, a bit on the small side, but still. That took a lot of flexibility that Kai didn't know drakes could have. Cedric was currently fighting the very happy drake, as the drake was very determined to show Athie that this was all a joke, but Cedric realized that Athie would probably have a heart attack if he saw a giant drake barreling towards him. It didn't help that the first drake Athie met was Vivian, who was significantly less friendly than Puck. Of course, Puck paid no mind to Cedric's words. True as a friendly drake could be, he gave a big, wet lick to Athie's face who took it in surprising grace. Kai assumed he would faint again, but he simply seemed to be prepared for his death or face-removal. Kai wouldn't like to see Athie's face removed. Kai happens to like Athie's face. Kai thinks it is a good face, and not a face that should be removed -- by drake or otherwise. "Gods, I'm so sorry. I must be a bad luck charm to you or something."Had Athie med Cedric before? Well, then. If they were on such friendly terms, then Athie was a step ahead of Kai! Kai hadn't had the chance to properly meet Cedric, simply be the receiver of his many antics. Not that Kai particularly minded such antics, he simply felt that they could be in bad taste at times. Of course, now that the fear was starting to fade away, Kai recognized the hilarity of the situation: there was a Vetr here who was laughing with his drake at a situation that he should, in all reality, be punishing Kai for. Okay. "Iduneus. How did you manage to convince little Athie to wander into a drake-infested, warrior-filled flying ship?" Cedric asked, turning his attention from the surprised Athie to Kai. "By the way, you think he needs to go to the Infirmary? I can stick him in the high-priority ward or whatever."Oh. That's right. Athie fainted. Kai took a breath, finally able to react to everything, and looked at Athie. He seemed to be doing fine. Maybe a bit in shock, but that would be fairly treatable from wherever, assuming you had the proper things. Perhaps he was fine. "Ah, uh, no. I don't think Athie needs to go an infirmary." Kai's voice was shaky now, as the fear had slipped through in all the excitement, and while Kai knew there was nothing to fear, it still clung to edges of his mind. "As for convincing, uh, Athie. That was pretty easy. He just sorta. Went along with it. I suppose it wasn't the best plan, in hindsight, but uhm. That's life, I guess." Kai smiled briefly and then took a glance at Puck: he seemed to be happy to just sit there. Of course, it was Puck that ruined Cedric's act entirely, and while Cedric seemed to dislike the timing, Kai felt it was very appropriate. After all, letting a prank get out of hand is never fun for the recipients. "Alvis?"The voice was unexpected, and Kai definitely didn't expect that coming from Athie. "Alvis? Who is Alvis?" Kai, of course, knew nothing of the strange adventure that happened to take place a handful of nights before he met Athie, where there happened to be two blue haired men alongside Athie for a very eventful night. |

Ced had to agree that the Iduneus's concise reply of "oh" was pretty accurate for the current situation.
Given that there was a Vetr who was supposed to be furious and a drake that was supposed to be killer both currently laughing and causing mischief in the poor man's room, "oh" seemed like a vetry ((hehehe)) reasonable response. Not to mention the fact that both had just gone through what appeared to be an instantaneous personality switch between bloody furious and crazy bundles of giggles and fuzz.
“Ah, uh, no. I don’t think Athie needs to go to an infirmary.”
Cedric gave a quick nod, the grin still not fading from his face. “That’s good. I mean, last time we had to take a trip to an apothecary, so I’d hate to be the harbinger of bad luck once again. I’m supposed to be saving the day, not causing it, after all.”
“I’ll have you know it was merely a bump and-“
Athie suddenly stopped mid-sentence.
A look was spreading over his face, a look of narrowed eyes and connected dots, pieces falling into place and curtains being torn away to reveal the heart of the matter. And Cedric’s face changed with the little viking’s, grin becoming more and more wicked as the moments ticked onwards and the facts clicked into place.
Watching these types of moments happen was ranked the highest among his most rewarding and enjoyable accolades as an actor. He loved having tricked people out of the truth and watching it unfold before their eyes. As a man whose acting was done constantly and on the go, it was rewarding to see that his façade paid off at least threefold with each incredulous face that he got in return for his dedication and hard work.
Of course, sometimes he was more dedicated than others. In this case, having met Athie while he was on a break, he had not cared much about his guise. It had also been spontaneous—an entirely off-the-cuff performance. And still, he got his moment of triumph, spotlighted for the reveal.
Kai seemed a little oblivious to the current glorious occurrence in Athie’s brain, however, continuing on. "As for convincing, uh, Athie. That was pretty easy. He just sorta. Went along with it. I suppose it wasn't the best plan, in hindsight, but uhm. That's life, I guess."
Ced shrugged, smile vanishing so he could raise an eyebrow to indicate his thoughts of ‘that’s fair.’ “You’ve probably had better ideas, but it might work out alright just yet.”
“…Alvis?”
Cedric’s grin returned, a full-on smirk this time around.
“Alvis? Who is Alvis?” came the baffled voice of poor Kai. Ced couldn’t help but feel bad for the Iduneus—having his quarters trashed, and now this.
He raised pointed a finger, dragging it around the air lazily as he over accentuated his gestures and pauses dramatically. “I maybe might have lied to you, a little, a few times, about my identity, over the course of that evening,” he began with a sheepish smile that mimicked Athie’s own. “My name really isn’t Alvis, and, well, I’m really not not a Drakonrhedi. In fact, er,” he paused and scratched the back of his neck as if ashamed. “I am definitely a Drakonrhedi. Or at least I’d hope so. Considering that I'm, well,” he chuckled diffidently. "A Vetr and all that. Y'know."
He removed his arm from around Puck’s neck, and the drake shook himself out before shuffling over to make room for Kai and settling his haunches to the ground.
“Vetr Cedric Vyrrson, at your disposal,” Ced announced with a flourishing bow, like a performer at the end of their drama, Shakespearean in every regard.
Raising his head again, he smiled once more, still enjoying himself. “My dear Athie, how have you been? I do hope the wrist hasn’t bothered you much. And Kai—is it alright if I call you Kai? Probably should have asked before I did. Oh well, Vetr privileges—I must thank you for bringing Athie aboard. He’s been victim to my mischief before, the poor lad. Regardless, feel free to give him the full tour—crow’s nest and all. Whatever you can visit, he can visit, although that does mean no intruding on others’ quarters. If anyone gives you any trouble, just send them to me.”
Vetr-authorized tours were well-known to be the best.

. “I maybe might have lied to you, a little, a few times, about my identity, over the course of that evening,”
Athie frowned and tilted his head to the side at this, more like a puzzled puppy than anything else. In truth, he could scarcely believe what he was hearing. Although it was no mystery that he wasn't perhaps the brightest matchstick in the box, such circumstances would surely confuse most people. This man looked nothing like Alvis, although now Athie came to think of it, he did seem to recognize a familiar devilish glint in the Vetr's eyes; that certain bubble of mischief and that playful spark Athie knew all too well.
“My name really isn’t Alvis, and, well, I’m really not not a Drakonrhedi. In fact, er,”
Athie blinked, way beyond the edge of dumbfounded-ness by this point. His mouth hung loose, as if he was trying to will the jumble of questions he had out of his mouth, but no sound came. Wait- not not? Does that mean he is? Double negatives were usually lost on Athie. A lot of things were lost on Athie, and his poor, simple mind was beginning to work overtime.
“I am definitely a Drakonrhedi. A Vetr and all that. Y'know."
Aha! So Alvis (or 'not-Alvis', apparently) was a Drakonrhedi - Athie had been right all along? Still, there was no time to celebrate his correct assumption just yet; he still had all these new mental obstacles to overcome, and at present he'd barely scrambled over the first hurdle over how he was suddenly face to face with a stranger who knew his face.
And he's a Vetr too?
Athie couldn't halt a small gulp, despite his best efforts too, and he felt his muscles clench. While it was true he didn't know much about Drakonrhedis, he did know enough to be aware that Vetrs were pretty much the top dogs in the organization, and when someone is that well off in the hierarchy, you don't mess with them. Being the youngest out of nine brothers taught him that long ago.
“Vetr Cedric Vyrrson, at your disposal,”
Cedric gave a bow, and there was a pause, in which Athie filled with glancing nervously over to Kai, who seemed almost as puzzled with the whole situation. Blinking quickly and swallowing hard once more, Athie looked back to the bowed Vetr and timidly raised a hand, that slowly curled into a minuscule wave, "H-hello." he returned sheepishly, trying to make his voice sound polite but his stutter betrayed him.
He didn't really know how to react; it felt as if he was meeting something entirely new and yet - apparently- Cedric was an individual who Athie was already very familiar with. It was a very bizarre feeling indeed! He wondered how to go about this, wondering whether to relax completely and treat Cedric with how he'd treated 'Alvis' or behave as if he was meeting a complete stranger. But...they were the same person, right?
“My dear Athie, how have you been? I do hope the wrist hasn’t bothered you much."
"I...um, I'm ok." Athie mumbled nervously, shifting a little where he sat on Kai's bed. He was sitting cross-legged, and shyly fidgeting with the fabric on his trousers, looking up only occasionally to make timid eye contact with Cedric while the man addressed Kai.
Was he supposed to feel hurt that Cedric/Alvis had essentially lied to him? If Athie was supposed to, he wasn't doing a very good job, as he couldn't find it in himself to hold a grudge against his friend...Cedric was his friend right? Yes. Of course he is. reminded an inner voice with a snap. When you made friend with Alvis that night, you made friends with Cedric. They're the same person!
Athie took a deep breath and looked up at Cedric, "I'm glad it's you, Al-" He paused, thought for a moment, then correct himself "-Cedric, sorry. I'm glad it's you, Cedric. Promise me that's your real self though, yeah? And um-" He cast a brief look at Kai, before quietly adding, "-don't tell Kai about the whole tavern thing..." His cheeks turned a little pink at the memory, and he prayed Cedric would save him the embarrassment.
He suddenly remembered Cedric words - something about a Drakonborg tour - and immediately started to perk up, a sense of childish wonder taking over his suddenly light expression, "Can I really go see the Drakonborg? Is that alright?" he inquired, his nerves now superseded by his growing excitement, "I promise I'll be good. I won't do anything stupid - or at least, I won't try to. And don't be mad at Kai or anything for this..I...I mean, we were both sort of in this together."
Now that he was (mostly) on the same page as Cedric, his confidence began to grow again, and it was with a sudden mental 'ping' that he remembered about the drake lying on the floor of Kai's bedroom. He glanced over towards the beast, and its relaxed composure allowed Athie to ease his own muscles as well, pleased that at least he wasn't about to be licked to death, although he still found the gesture to be rather endearing. He had a growing urge to stroke the creature's muzzle, much like one would do with a horse, but he kept his affectionate gesture at bay, not wanting to overstep the mark with the drake or possibly annoy Cedric either. Still...maybe if he asked super politely? "Um.." came the nervous start of his query, "...can I...stroke him?" A small finger outstretched to point itself at the winged beast as Athie looked back to face Cedric, a small smile tugging at one corner of his mouth, "Payback for him licking half my face off."

There was a lot of information being tossed about, and Kai.. Well. At this point, he really didn't care. He sat down on his bed and threw his head into his hands. To be honest, he wasn't necessarily stressed, but he was more just tired. It was the weird feeling after the adrenaline wore off but you weren't really afraid of anything anymore. Cedric wasn't mad at all, from what he heard. In fact, they seemed to be friends. Athie and Cedric, that is. Instead of paying attention to the conversation, Kai cast his mind to the drake that was happily sitting on the floor. So, you're the one who nearly gave me and Athie both a heart attack, and the one who trashed my room. I'd like to make you pay... But I can never stay mad at drakes for too long. A small smile teased at the corner's of Kai's lips; he seemed to get the happiness that he strove for so desperately. "Whatever you can visit, he can visit, although that does mean no intruding on others’ quarters. If anyone gives you any trouble, just send them to me."Cedric was okay with it? That fucking prick. If Kai were the writer's author character, then he would probably be in the mood to throw a punch at Cedric. But as Kai was most definitely not Anton, he instead smiled. Truthfully, he had no ill feelings towards Cedric. Rather, the feelings of anger were directed towards himself for being so gullible. Cedric was truly okay with it, and that made Kai quite the happy person he longed to be. Kai saw the drake once more. He saw the beautiful furry, scaly, fluffy beast. He saw the wings tucked up so carefully, and he saw how Puck managed to find just the position to fit in the room. "Stupid little thing," he muttered affectionately. Animals were, quite frankly, the best friends possible in Kai's mind. They didn't know of betrayal and hatred. They knew only of love, fear, and joy. Those were feelings easy to understand. To fear death, to love life, and to be blissful when you around those whom you loved. Yes, Puck was indeed blissful. To be truly honest, Kai did not feel blissful at the moment. He was afraid of Cedric. Even if the man was a friend, he was still someone that Kai feared. He worked in ways that Kai couldn't even begin to understand, and thus Kai hadn't the slightest clue how to please the Vetr. But, luckily for Kai, he didn't recognize these feelings consciously quite yet. No, instead he simply felt a mixture of unease and happiness, trending towards the happy side. Those more complicated feelings were sure to rise up one day, but not now. No, now was the moment for... The tour? "Athie! Where should we go first? There's the deck and the various spots that drakes like to hang out and the mess hall! And I can probably sneak you -- er, I mean, get permission to get you into the armory. I'd like to see how well you handle yourself with a sword. I mean, you do have a thing for them from what I recall. In fact, you seemed to specifically mention how beautiful and sleek that one sword was. You even asked if you could hold it." Kai's voice took on a teasing (near impish towards the end) tone. Cedric. Would he be joining them? Probably not, but... It was the famous Vetr Cedric Vyrrson, lord of the mysterious and things that made no sense. Cautiously, Kai turned his head towards the man, clearing his throat. "And what about you? Will you be joining us along for the trip? It seems you already know Athie quite well, so it might be fun."Kai wasn't sure which he would be more afraid of: Cedric saying no and seeming almost displeased, or Cedric saying yes and having to deal with that mess. Oh, my. One was sure to end in terrible things. Probably the former. Or the latter. Maybe both. |

"I...um, I'm ok."
Cedric withheld a smile. Watching people become accustomed to his new identity was also amusing, but a little more tedious if one had been through the procedure often enough. It was alright, though, he could afford to be patient for friends. Besides, who could blame them--he had lied, after all.
Harmless lying, but lying all the same.
"I'm glad it's you, Al--Cedric, sorry. I'm glad it's you, Cedric. Promise me that's your real self though, yeah? And um--don't tell Kai about the whole tavern thing..."
The Vetr threw a sideways glance to Kai, a grin flashing onto his face. "You have my word; my lips are sealed," he responded. He owed the poor Fallonkreath that much, at least.
"Can I really go see the Drakonborg? Is that alright? I promise I'll be good. I won't do anything stupid - or at least, I won't try to. And don't be mad at Kai or anything for this..I...I mean, we were both sort of in this together."
Ced nodded. "Yeah, sure. Why not? And I'm not mad at anyone... except for Puck."
There was a sad little warble. The drake's crest dropped, and woeful eyes turned to Cedric, who bit his lips and looked away.
It was fairly clear at this point that he couldn't stay mad at the beast for long, especially when Puck was giving him the wide-eyed, saddened, pleading gaze that just begged to be forgiven and loved once more.
Ced licked his lips, trying to hide the smile that was forming and failing. He turned to the beast. "You're just going to run off and cause more trouble," he admonished the drake, but it was sounding less and less like a reprimand. There was a pause, and then the Vetr sighed, reaching out to pat the drake lightly on the head. Puck responded by dropping the sad act entirely and energetically licking his master's hand.
"...can I...stroke him? Payback for him licking half my face off."
The blue-haired Vetr chuckled. "Of course! I'm certain he won't mind." He cast a pointed look at Puck and commanded, "Behave."
It wasn't like the drake was going to follow that order.
Puck gave an excited little snuffle, wiggling forward while retaining his sitting position to proffer his snout to Athie for pettings.
Kai appeared ready to return to the conversation after a the little shock that he'd just been through. Poor lad. Ced withheld yet another grin at the unfortunate Iduneus's expense.
You even asked if you could hold it."
Ced raised a dyed blue eyebrow at the term 'sneak.' He'd given his permission, after all, for Athie to go wherever.
The Iduneus turned to him. "And what about you? Will you be joining us along for the trip? It seems you already know Athie quite well, so it might be fun."
The Vetr paused a moment, then a slightly sadder expression came over him. "I don't think I can. I've got Vetry things to do. People here apparently need a man with blue hair for a great many things." He held a fist up to his mouth as he cleared his throat in turn.
"Iduneus Kai," he began in a voice that could only be described as pompous. "You are now tasked with the guiding of our esteemed guest, Mr. Athuraadd Fallonkreath. I expect you to see to his every whim and desire to the best of your abilities, and provide him with all the comforts expected by an honoured personage on the Drakonborg."
He gave a mischievous smirk, starkly opposing his aloof voice.
"I wish you both an excellent time." He crossed one foot behind the other and gave another bow to the two before glaring at Puck.
"Get your fat arse of out Kai's room, you knave," he told the beast affectionately.
Puck warbled, sending a quick lick Athie's way before swiveling around on his haunches and wriggling back out of the room with marginally more care than before.
Ced followed, but poked his head back in after a moment.
"Oh! Another thing. If you need me for some reason, I'll probably be shouting at some fools on deck." He flashed a quick grin, then vanished again.

"You have my word; my lips are sealed."
Athie returned Cedric kind words with a small, thankful grin, briefly casting a look towards Kai just to make sure he hadn't gotten wind of the conversation. He didn't doubt that Kai was probably already used to the helpless Viking's antics, but he'd prefer it if at least a shred of his dignity remained intact. Fortunately for him, Kai seemed more taken with Puck, who had taken up residence on the floor.
"Yeah, sure. Why not? And I'm not mad at anyone... except for Puck."
At Cedric's scolding, the drake seemed to instantly droop and take on a noticeable melancholy front, and Athie found himself giving the poor creature a sympathetic smile. He wasn't ashamed to admit he thought the beast was darned cute, and the urge to give it a feel better hug was growing immense.
"Of course! I'm certain he won't mind. Behave."
Athie grinned and reminded himself not to tense as the drake shuffled himself forward and readied himself for patting. "Hi, Puck." Athie offered sheepishly, not really sure on how to properly address a drake. Then again, Puck seemed more than happy to receive such affectionate gestures, so Athie figured he wouldn't be too offended if he took advantage of the situation.
He knew from experience (having a horse form and all that) that long, soothing strokes down the nose were particularly welcome with creatures like this, and he figured -since horses and drakes shared that similar sloping muzzle- that perhaps the nerves and soft spots were not too different. With a purposefully steady hand he reached out and with the back of his fingers stroked down Puck's nose, slowly and gently at first, and then progressing to give a firm but playful scratch under the chin (although making sure he wasn't too close to those teeth).
Once he grew a little more confident with this new experience, Athie shuffled himself forward so that he now sat opposite Puck with his feet dangling over the side of Kai's bed. With both arms now extended towards the beast, he clasped either side of Puck's muzzle (although extremely gently, just so Puck knew Athie meant no harm) and pressed his own nose against the bridge of Puck's and rubbed his skin against the soft fur of the much larger beast. He'd seen riders make similar gestures with horses, and while no one had ever done so to him in his own form (probably because it was awkward having an actual human behind the animal countenance) he knew it to be a sign of affection and friendship, and he hoped it carried a similar message for drakes.
You even asked if you could hold it."
Kai sudden excited description about the Drakonborg immediately pulled Athie's attention away from Puck and he sat there blinking for a moment, taking it all in in. At the mention of the sword escapade, the hint of a blush crept into Athie's cheeks as bad sword innuendos came flooding back into his memory. He suddenly remembered Cedric was in the room and with a sudden fluster tried to explain Kai's meaning. He turned hurriedly to the Vetr, "He means actual swords, promise!" he bleated, "Proper, real, long, hard swords-" He stopped, "Wait- no, hang on. I didn't mean that."
After his stammer session was finished, he turned back to Kai with a sheepish grin, "I'd love to see the armory." he returned, finally addressing the other man's proposal.
"And what about you? Will you be joining us along for the trip? It seems you already know Athie quite well, so it might be fun."
Athie turned to Cedric expectantly.
"I don't think I can. I've got Vetry things to do. People here apparently need a man with blue hair for a great many things."
Athie nearly felt himself sag; he was disappointed Cedric would be leaving, but then again, even Athie was quick to realise the man had a knack for mischief, and perhaps it was best for Athie's stable(ish) state of mind that he was departing their company. He glanced quickly up at Cedric's blue hair and for the slightest, tiniest, briefest of seconds, the image of another cerulean-haired male lingered in the back of his mind, but even before the figure could probably materialise, his subconscious quickly shook it away.
"Iduneus Kai. You are now tasked with the guiding of our esteemed guest, Mr. Athuraadd Fallonkreath. I expect you to see to his every whim and desire to the best of your abilities, and provide him with all the comforts expected by an honoured personage on the Drakonborg."
Athie wiltered a little, but only with touched embarrassment. He reckoned Cedric was merely over exaggerating for amusement, but he was appreciative nonetheless. Even so, he felt safe in Kai's perfectly capable hands - he doubted anything could go wrong now, especially with Cedric's blessing.
"I wish you both an excellent time. Get your fat arse of out Kai's room, you knave,"
But before Puck departed, the beast had quickly hopped back over the Athie and planted a happy lick on the Viking's cheek. Athie laughed this time at the gesture, and nearly had to playfully bat the sloppy creature away from him so he could breathe properly.
Puck warbled, sending a quick lick Athie's way before swiveling around on his haunches and wriggling back out of the room with marginally more care than before.
"Oh! Another thing. If you need me for some reason, I'll probably be shouting at some fools on deck."
And just like that, the eccentric duo had departed. There was a moments pause, before a long exhale left Athie's lips. "That was...interesting." he remarked airily, sounding a little dazed. He turned to Kai and briefly forgetting himself, let out a laugh, "I can't believe I fainted!" He sucked in a quick inhale through clenched teeth, "Sorry again about that." He looked back towards the door where Cedric and Puck had squeezed through not moments before, "Still, if that's the kind of officers the Drakonrhedi has, maybe I dodged a bullet." He said it in jest of course, but secretly he wondered what life with someone like Cedric giving your orders was like.
Turning back to Kai, he added "Shall we then, tour guide?" His tone was playful and bubbling with excitement as he stood up and brushed himself down.
Once there were on the move, Athie bobbing behind Kai like a meerkat, the Armfastrung Viking found himself awash with queries, "Are all your Vetrs like that?" was the first question that successfully surfaced, as Athie peered around the corridors. They seemed surprisingly emptied, and Athie began to wonder if he perhaps visited on a busy patrol day or something.
