"Are you alright?"
He frowned briefly. Oh, shoot. Had she discovered the odd distortion of his emotions, or at least finally saw fit to comment on it? Well, he was probably in for it, then. She sounded suspicious enough, although there might've been a touch of concern in there. However, he doubted she was entirely happy with this situation. He could only hope that his lens wasn't giving away any sort of guilt at the fact.
Before she could question him further, however, she appeared to be distracted by the waiter. Ade smiled slightly, a fact that made happiness flush through him pleasantly. It's good to make someone interesting happy, right? Yes, of course. Why was he doubting himself? Either way, it would do him no good to dwell on it.
The waiter and food didn't save him long--barely enough time to cast his cantrip. Looking at the mirror, he was once more made aware of how unnatural and distorted his emotions were towards the edge of his figure.
Yeah, this would definitely take some troubleshooting.
"So, yeah, who're you gonna research again?"
He paused. There were exactly zero right answers to this question. Lying that he was researching a target would probably show up in her emotion-keen eyes, telling the truth would weird her out (as he was technically researching her), and lying to her and saying some other person would no doubt start drama.
The Vetr's eyes narrowed microscopically. He could always play sly--which meant, in his case, being an infuriating smartarse.
Yeah, that looked like the most scrape-free way out of this.
"Someone very peculiar," he replied. It was both honest and dirty. "They're a bit of an enigma, to be honest. I don't think I'll need any aid, but..." He trailed off with a shrug.
Oh, ha ha, very funny Vetr. You just had to put that in there, didn't you.
"Either way, how's dinner?"
It's just punderful, Cedric. Oh, ha ha, aren't you a brilliant little bloody bastard? Dang right I am. I'm so brilliant that the people around me need to wear blindfolds. Now that was just rude, I should stop. I'm making me want to take out my own eyes.
With a measure of control, the Vetr took another sip of his drink.
I'm not so sure I'd be able to take out my own eyes. I mean, I'd need something pointy, like a javelin. But I think I'd probably be trembling. So I'd end up with a shake spear.
Goddammit Cedric, just stop.
With an inward sigh, he glanced at the mirror. His emotions were still terribly distorted. With a frown of distaste, he dispelled both the cantrip and the lens, a wave of dizziness hitting him as his eyesight reverted and sending the room spinning like a top. He blinked blearily as the world gyrated around him, managing to keep himself steady despite the terribly fast rotation.
Let's not give that a whirl for a while.
....
I'm so done with myself.

Ade studied his aura as he spoke. He appeared to be exhibiting some amount of grief, now, continuously flecked with happiness and serenity. What was even happening? She assumed it could be genuine, but he hadn't been experiencing such bizarre behavior in the short amount of time they'd been together. Something was definitely suspicious, but it was beyond her comprehension. "Someone very peculiar. They're a bit of an enigma, to be honest. I don't think I'll need any aid, but..."She, through much difficult, held back a snicker. No this is serious. He's flirting with someone and it's annoying.Actually, no, it's fine. Why should I care? I don't. Nobody does! Who freakin' cares."Well, if you ever do need an aid, I'd be happy to comply." She relieved herself from her passive aggressive stance, mild amusement resurfacing. "Either way, how's dinner?"Oh! Right." She snapped back to their original purpose, having nearly forgotten about the food on her plate. She took a sip of her drink before grasping her utensils, ruthlessly digging into the meat. She fumbled slightly with the silverware, fraying the steak as she withdrew a single piece. Damn, she really needed to up her game! Especially with my high class competition who--aaaaaaannnnd we're going to stop thinking. She, of course, didn't stop thinking. She swatted her self with more senseless speculations, all the while desperately attempting to assure herself. I bet she's some busty broad with curves like an hourglass. And maybe she is. I mean, I don't care. But the bitch probably can't even pick up a sword! Not like it matters. People can like whoever they want. She muttered to herself as her perspective jumped from corner to corner, attempting to banish the thoughts. She brought the food up to her mouth, channeling her thoughts into the savory scent wafting into her nostrils. She placed the bite in her mouth at once, taste buds clinging to the specimen and extracting the succulence. The taste hit her like a freight train. It caught her completely off guard, even with her being at full alert. "Holy shif thif if good dam," She eloquently described, ushering another bite into her mouth. She gave herself perhaps a moment to chew before retrieving her drink, downing the remaining liquid at once. "Well, if you ever do need an aid, I'd be happy to comply."
He paused and gave that some thought while half-faking a chuckle. Have Aid help him research her? It was risky. Her expertise with aura reading would be invaluable, and he could always say that he was developing the aura lens to shield his affections from someone else. She'd either figure out who or just get more confused... but then, did he want her confused? He did want her off the scent of his attractions, because that would just be awkward. However, he didn't particularly want to deceive her, as he was fairly certain that was not the way to a healthy, happ relationship. Maybe he could ask Freya for advice? She knew a lot of crap about this. The only fault in this plan was that Freya would automatically assume he was interested in someone, which might soon not be far from the truth. After that, it was only a matter of time before she guessed correctly, and then he was in for it. That woman did not mess around when playing matchmaker.
"Oh! Right."
Ade dug in, and he followed suit, carefully slicing away and bite-sized hunk of meat and placing it deliberately in his mouth. The rich sauce suffused his tongue, warm and scrumptious.
Ah, yes, this was a true post-work day treat.
"Holy shif thif if good dam."
Cedric let out a snicker, swallowing before replying. "Indeed, it is. Worth the wait, most definitely."
The temptation to ask for her assistance wheedled at him.
You'll need the aura lens even if you don't develop feelings, something told him. You can't leave yourself open to subterfuge like this.
Cedric, she can see your emotions! It doesn't matter whether or not you like her, that's a weakness that needs to be taken care of.
Should he? Shouldn't he?
He shifted uncomfortably in his seat. "Well, uhm, actually, now that you offer, I might need your help."
The Vetr ran a hand through his blue hair, a nervous tick of his.
"You see, I need to develop an aura lens for, ah, shielding my emotions. As you saw earlier, it needs... a lot of work." He paused to take a gulp of water. "If you don't mind, I could use your assistance."
Oh great job. Now you'll be spending a lot of time with her. Just swell.

Ade proceeded to relish in the delicious entree, shoveling more steak into her mouth. Honestly, it was disappointing to see that she had already consumed half of the meat! She needed to savor it, yeah? Her bites grew smaller as she continued to delve into the lusciousness
"Well, uhm, actually, now that you offer, I might need your help."
She perked at his realization, shifting uncomfortably in her chair. Sure, she had originally offered her help, but she hadn't been expecting him to accept it. She wasn't especially keen on helping him snatch some heroine.
The waiter emerged into the room but a moment later, checking in on the customers. He offered her a second Black Tie, to which she quickly accepted.
"You see, I need to develop an aura lens for, ah, shielding my emotions. As you saw earlier, it needs... a lot of work. If you don't mind, I could use your assistance."
She took a moment to process the information.
He was using an aura lens? For what reason would he need that? Surely he wasn't that intimidated by her ability? Unless...
Unless that bitch could read auras too!
No, how could she? It was odd enough that she inherited such a rare trait. Perhaps he needed it Vetr-related things. She decided the latter was the better option, but that didn't stop her from saying what she did.
"Uh, sure. Who's it for? I bet they're really annoying if you need an aura lens just for them."

The waiter had come in, inquiring as to whether or not everything was alright. Cedric nodded, he needed no refills and the meal was scrumptious. Ade, however, was quickly served an additional Black Tie. Apparently she did like his taste, at least in drinks and food.
She did, however, seem slightly uncomfortable with his request. Oh, great job, Cedric. You're just excellent at this. I told you to think this through!
Remember, it's just for Vetr things. You need it for Vetr things.
"Uh, sure. Who's it for? I bet they're really annoying if you need an aura lens just for them."
Shame flared through him as he blushed. That was... not expected. And now he'd be adversely complimenting her, instead of taking it slowly like he'd hoped to. Never mind the fact that now he was going to be lying to her. He wished he could just apologize and hug her--except for the hugging bit. He wasn't thinking about that right now, nope. Not now.
However, he did find some solace in the irony that she was pretty much insulting herself. Perhaps he could pretend to be acting the gentleman? No, unlikely he could convince even himself of that.
Just make sure not to give this person a gender.
"Ah--no, she's not especially annoying."
Well, shit. Excellently done, Vetr.
"I find her kind of nice, actually. I just... don't want her to be able to see my emotions, y'know? Plus, a Vetr can't show weakness. To anyone. Um."
You've been doing a spectacular job of that lately, haven't you? Also, nice job with the not stuttering there.
"Of course, if you don't want to, I can figure it out myself. I just thought I might as well ask, since you are, after all, the resident expert in aura reading."
Flattery. Finally, you're doing something right this round, Cedric.
Probably not for long, but whatever. For now, his internal monologue was approving of his actions.
He hoped she didn't start insulting this "mysterious lady" again. That was going to be awkward.

Ade watched as shame infiltrated his system, "Ah--no, she's not especially annoying."A surge of anger erupted within her. There it was. That's all she needed to know. Her suspicions were deemed accurate with that single statement. "I find her kind of nice, actually. I just... don't want her to be able to see my emotions, y'know? Plus, a Vetr can't show weakness. To anyone. Um.How can you find her nice if you haven't talked to her, dammit! Her brows were sewn together, vacuuming the drink from her glass as he spoke. Now he was rubbing off some sort of a tool. Why was he asking for her help, anyways? Couldn't he handle his love affairs by himself? That's how the rest of them had to do it. "Of course, if you don't want to, I can figure it out myself. I just thought I might as well ask, since you are, after all, the resident expert in aura reading."She inhaled another portion of the drink, observing his flustered aura through narrowed eyes. Should she help the man? Every fiber was telling her no, but it could be an excellent opportunity for a well-deserved prank. Aaaagh! Aid! You need to calm down! He can like whoever the hell he wants. And we definitely shouldn't care. At all. So let's just calm down and be adults about this."She kind of sounds like a bitch, to be honest."Oh so smooth. No matter how hard she fought with herself, she couldn't get the idea through her thick skull. She really, truly, should not be minding the man's personal problems. Still, she couldn't resist giving him a "helping" hand. "But... I guess I could help you. Ade was frowning, frowning thunderously. She was suspicious of his intentions, but didn't seem to realize that she was indeed the reason behind this?
Should he tell her?
Wait a second. Was she getting... jealous?
No, that couldn't be it. Why would she be jealous? He was the one with the clouded head and no way to see her emotions. She probably could just sense all of his lying and lu--
Oh.
Had that emotion he'd exhibited earlier, inside his affection, been lust? Was he lusting after someone?
This was so not okay.
"She kind of sounds like a bitch, to be honest."
Ade had slurped up her new drink. Perhaps that was the reason for her harsher words--she was beginning to get intoxicated. You couldn't blame someone for how they acted while drunk.
Either way, he couldn't let her talk about herself this way.
"Mmm, not really. She's nice enough to help out a person in need."
He took another quick bite of his steak.
"But... I guess I could help you. What d'ya need me to do?"
Alright, I managed to secure her help. Step one of a nonexistent plan: complete.
"Ah, the distortion of my emotions earlier was from a lens spell I sort of made up on the spot. I need you to teach me how emotions move inside a person so I can cast the lens and anticipate the shifts as my emotions shift. Otherwise I'll magnify the wrong thing."
She was probably going to try and make him magnify the wrong thing, wasn't she. He withheld a sigh.
This was going to be a very long project.

"Mmm, not really. She's nice enough to help out a person in need."Ade sighed, setting another piece of steak on her tongue. What a virtue! She can supposedly help someone out who, for the most part, probably didn't need her godforsaken help. In fact, she probably managed to screw everything else up in the process! Ha, what a dumbass. Ugh... stop! Stop it right now who gives a shiiitttt."Ah, the distortion of my emotions earlier was from a lens spell I sort of made up on the spot. I need you to teach me how emotions move inside a person so I can cast the lens and anticipate the shifts as my emotions shift. Otherwise I'll magnify the wrong thing."Oh, I'll teach you about emotions alright.... Which I will actually do! Because I may as well help out an acquaintance in need, especially since I really shouldn't care about anything he does. Her knife dug into the dwindling supply of steak, her knuckles coiled around in silverware in an irritated manner. Well, at least he unveiled the reason behind his disfigured demeanor. She may have cared slightly more at a previous time, but for now her mind was jumping from different tiers of annoyance. Perhaps he wasn't even attracted to the woman? No, that was an awful assumption. His aura blatantly withheld both lust and affection, even though they weren't active at the moment. Maybe a family member? Dammit, no! No family member looks towards another with lust! ...Well, some may. But that was besides the point. She slurped in more of her drink, finding that supply faltering as well. Perhaps she should take it easy? She was beginning to feel it kick in. "Okay. I can tell you some stuff now."She almost unconsciously finished the remnants of her drink. "You seem kind of a little... what's it called. Guilty? Yeah." W..wait! We're supposed to be telling him the opposite of what he was! She mentally cursed herself, bringing the glass up to her lips once again. She rose her brow when she discovered it to be empty. How did... oh, right. She was supposed to be taking it easy! Tags: Cedric Vyrrson Inspiration: eeee Notes: Quick, gather around! We've spotted a wild ade! Ade continued to eat and drink. Cedric munched along with her, having plopped the last bite of steak into his mouth just after he'd finished speaking.
The Vetr watched her carefully. She appeared to be getting slightly frustrated--perhaps it was the drink? There was no reason for her to react negatively to his proposition, unless he'd managed to reveal his deceit prematurely. However, she would probably come with an all-out accusation, then. Aid didn't really seem the type to dance around the bush much.
She took a large gulp of her drink, to which Cedric's brow creased with consternation. She probably shouldn't be having that much to drink... Black Ties may not be the strongest thing out there, but that doesn't mean they're weak.
"Okay. I can tell you some stuff now."
A wave of relief passed through him. She hadn't commented yet on the deception. He was clea-
"You seem kind of a little... what's it called. Guilty? Yeah."
Well never mind that.
So she had sensed the guilt. But did she know at what? Usually guilt and deception went hand-in-hand, but that didn't mean she had noted this particular series of lies. He was an excellent liar. Had he managed to keep his intents secret?
Or perhaps she had sensed his emotions, but simply not yet put two and two together. It couldn't be long, however.
Cedric was more inclined to the latter option, as it made less assumptions and didn't bank on anything important.
"Yeah, I don't like asking much of people I've just met," he lied. "Although, I am feeding you, so I guess I'm closer to even than I originally thought."
She raised her glass to her lips again, seeming slightly surprised at its lack of fluid. The Vetr took his opportunity.
"Are you sure you should be drinking so much? I mean, I have no objection to paying, but those things can hit pretty hard, especially if you have multiple in a row." He still hadn't finished his first, the water keeping him from ingesting too much alcohol. He'd developed the 2:1 sip ratio after his first encounter with Black Ties and a hangover big enough to make his drake's head hurt.
Neither was eager to repeat that experience.

"Yeah, I don't like asking much of people I've just met. Although, I am feeding you, so I guess I'm closer to even than I originally thought."Ade pondered the thought for a moment, shrugging in agreement. "Well, yeah. We also beat people up n stuff. So I think you can ask me for things and whatnot." Her lips quivered into a smile. Why was she being so harsh, anyways? It's not like he'd done anything wrong. She hadn't anticipated that the cat by the crates were to bring her on such a feat. A restaurant? Drunken brawls? Sober yet equally interesting brawls? Hell, at the time, she didn't even think that the cat had the capability to turn into a man! It was quite an incredible day, no matter how many odd emotions it spawned. She fumbled with her utensils once again, managing to impale the final piece of steak on her plate. Bittersweetness at its finest. It was sad, really! It was such a nice steak. She regarded its finesse at the first bite, and admittedly allowed it to leave her as she continued on with the entree. She took a moment to admire the meat before plopping it in her mouth. "Are you sure you should be drinking so much? I mean, I have no objection to paying, but those things can hit pretty hard, especially if you have multiple in a row."Ade glanced at the empty glass. She drank one, as far as she was concerned. Or... no, two. Three? Actually, it might've been three. Still, it's not like he should ca- Oh shoot he was paying. The gravity of this meal clocked her cold. Or was that the alcohol? Whatever the matter, he was certainly investing far more in this girl than he was probably going to get out. "That's just bad business," She blurted. Way to stay on topic. He was probably dumbfounded, due to the complete lack of commentary on her personal suspicions. Perhaps she should point him in the right direction? "Erm... I mean, yeah. But it's good, so..." She shrugged, as if she had no other choice but to drain every ounce of liquor that the restaurant provided. In fact, she should order another one of these delicacies! Come on, waiter, we don't have all day. No you dumbass! He's paying, remember?"Can I get another one of these thingies?"The waiter was bending over their table. Wait, why was she whispering in his ear? And since when was the waiter here? Wait... did she verbally call him out? She could've sworn that last part was in her head! "Well, yeah. We also beat people up n stuff. So I think you can ask me for things and whatnot."
Cedric chuckled. "I suppose I didn't really think of it that way. That's indeed true."
Bonding time, eh Ced?
Shut up.
"Well with that being said, you have the right to ask me for things, too."
Truly, they hadn't known each other for very long. He'd just randomly ran into her, after all, on a day he'd been meant to be preserving the Drakonrhedi's public opinion through sweet words and deeds. Although, he supposed that they had done just that--saved the innocent, broken up a brawl, and then went out to dinner at a very choice establishment.
He was just going to ignore the fact that the both of them had been stealing snacks previous to that.
Ade interrupted his reverie to order another drink from the waiter. Before the man left, Cedric put in his order for one slice of blueberry chiffon cake. He could do with his dessert.
As their server disappeared, he let out a laugh again. "You're going to have a headache tomorrow," the Vetr sighed. "You a happy, angry, or provocative drunk?"
The last question was more of a joke, but he certainly hoped she wasn't the third option. He wasn't sure if he could handle much more awkwardness in this day--he wasn't exactly the most socially prone or apt. He'd much prefer a good book and a warm companion in the Drakonborg's library to flirtatiousness.
Yeah, that's not exactly worked out for you today.
Perhaps this was what the relationship would turn in to.
Wistful thinking, Ced. Wistful thinking.
That was probably true.

"Well with that being said, you have the right to ask me for things, too."Ade considered the thought. Did she even have anything to ask him? Nothing in particular nipped her sides. Still, his permission may as well be his downfall. Surely she'll bring the subject up at a later point in time. "I guess I c'n keep that in mind," She said. Her voice seemed slightly more composed than it had been in the past few minutes. Pft, she had this sober thing down. "You're going to have a headache tomorrow. You a happy, angry, or provocative drunk?"For some inconceivable reason, she found his comment to be hilarious. A spurt of laughter spewed from her mouth before the waiter could set down her second drink. Third drink. No, it was definitely the fourth one. She hardly caught whiff of the waiter, although she did sense some amused form of concern. Her excitement overcame her, slurping in more of the liquid than she intended. "I'm not drunk. You're drunk. "I guess I c'n keep that in mind."
Oh, great job, Ced. Now you've gotten yourself indebted to her. She'll probably ask who this person you're courting is.
So what? You're a liar and a Vetr. You shouldn't feel bad for deceiving her.
But I should, if I really feel like a relationship it probably shouldn't involve all this deceit. He paused. Well, great job I've done there.
The waiter flashed him a raised eyebrow as he deposited the blueberry chiffon cake.
Cedric shook his head slightly and whispered, "Warned her about the Black Ties. Don't worry about it, I'll make sure she's alright."
The man nodded and slipped out.
"I'm not drunk. You're drunk. I can-" She interrupted herself to hiccup. "-sense it."
The Vetr paused for a moment. The waiter had vanished. What you're considering is morally wrong, even for you, but it'll get you the answers you want. But then again, when have you objected to deceit? You are the master of reconnaissance. Have you ever objected to a bit more knowledge on the subject?
The answer was, of course, no.
He chuckled and leaned forward. "Oh, yes. I'm hopelessly drunk, you're entirely sober." Normally it'd be construed as a sarcastic remark, but to Ade's confused and alcohol-addled brain, it might be just enough to convince her that he was being truthful with her.
"So, since I won't remember any of this by tomorrow, you can feel free to tell me anything you would ever desire to have me respond honestly to."
To prove his point, he took a large gulp of the Black Tie.
Cedric leaned forward with a crazy grin, plopping his chin on top of his hands in a listening-ready pose.

"Oh, yes. I'm hopelessly drunk, you're entirely sober."Ade's brows furrowed. Had the Vetr gotten himself intoxicated? Surely he had consumed some amount of alcohol in the past hour or so. She wasn't specifically charting every sip he took from his glass. How many had he gone through, anyways? She'd have a difficult time believing that this was his first. She quietly analyzed his aura. He seemed slightly amused? Or maybe he was annoyed. No, no, he was totally proud. Er... wait, no, that was JEALOUSY! ... No, nope. Not jealousy. Content? Ha, colors were fucking weird. "So, since I won't remember any of this by tomorrow, you can feel free to tell me anything you would ever desire to have me respond honestly to."Cedric reclined his glass, the liquid flowing into his mouth in a rather large amount. She mirrored him. By the time her drink returned to the table, he was goggling at her in an intrigued manner. She supposed that she had to talk, then? What would she even talk about. If he thought he was gonna get anything out of her just because she was tipsy, he was dead wro- "Are you pregnant?"The words spilled from her mouth.
