----- Blood Thicker than Water -----
In this world, Athuraadd had eight other brothers. He was the youngest. He was also the smallest. Height was something the Fallonkreath was (usually) very blessed with. Eight out the nine siblings were fortunate in this trait; they were very tall, very burly, very impressive, very...typical Viking. They were the ideal warrior sons; when they weren't battling each other in mock-combat, they were crafting their own weapons with which to fight said mock-combats. How proud the father of such ideal sons!
And then...there was Athuraadd.
Athuraadd, who was barely 5"8. Athuraadd, who could barely hold a war axe stable for more than a minute. Athuraadd, who didn't know a sword from his pinkie finger. Athuraadd, who was -for a better term of phrase- the runt of the litter.
Still, runts had their uses. Or so that's what he told himself.
Surprisingly, his father -the championed Armfastrung warrior- did not mind so much on having a rather meek son, who was practically dwarfed when standing by his siblings. But maybe that was because he had been the youngest out of his brothers so he took pity, or maybe it was because he already had eight strong sons so surely one runt wouldn't hurt his fearsome reputation, or maybe, juuuust maybe, it was because -for all his intimidating countenance, he was a father who treated all his sons equally, showering them in the pride and compassion such unconditional fatherly love offered.
Perhaps then, this was why Athuraadd never grew up with a grudge against his much stronger, more warrior-capable brothers. They were the same in the eyes of their folks, even though the clan could find more use for the older eight.
The order of the nine Fallonkreath sons was as follows; Agni the Sword-Edge (aged 33), Gunnard the Fight-Bringer (32), Hjottr the Defender (30), the twins Logmar the Pure and Leiff the Valiant (29), Rognvsldr the Wolf-Slayer (27), Vilkas the Headstrong (25), Ulfr the Eagle-Born (24) and Athuraadd the...Athie (coming in last at age 20).
Athie didn't have the honour of having a 'the' title, but his mother said it would come to him in time, like it was it was a bloody second puberty or something. In the meantime however, his ever-loving brothers had swooped in to comfort their littlest sibling, as was the proper nature of brothers. They had drawn up a suitable list of callings for Athie - a list which, of course, Athie himself had no say in:
- Athuraadd the Canon-Fodder
- Athuraadd the Easily-Stepped-On
- Athuraadd the Lacking-in-Testosterone
- Athuraadd the Maybe-Our-Mother-Slept-with-the-Postman
- Athuraadd the Thick-Headed
- Athuraadd the 'Yeah-he's-not-with-us'
- Athuraadd the Slowly-Getting-Pissed-off-with-All-These-Names
Alright, the last one might've been scribbled onto the list when a certain
True enough, even now as a young adult, they still found ways to pick on him. Perhaps the times when playful jesting had the potential of escalating into full-on physical fights were thankfully over, the odd mocking comment was still tossed around occasionally, and Athie had learnt to take it on the chin. For he knew that he only had to suffer such abuse from his brothers. Gods forbid anyone else had the gall to pick on the youngest Fallonkreath brother, and the others would swarm in on the unfortunate soul like a pack of maddened dogs.
The brothers had many strict brotherly codes, but one very important one was; 'This is Athuraadd. He's the littlest. Touch him and you're dead.'
