Rudin hovered above the frost-ridden treetops, the massive trees swaying leisurely in the frequent breezes that raked the land. Aphex's wing beats were silent amongst the air spurts, as were those of the Drakonrhedi behind him.
The Vetr had sent the Pryfektus on a hunt; sent to exterminate the behemoths conglomerating in the Drassil Forest. He, of course, volunteered to lead the group. These opportunities should never be surpassed - anyone who had the slightest amount of self-respect would throw themselves at the action.
He continued to fly through the bitter wind before quickly throwing his arm up, notifying his shadows of his course of action. He quietly pulled below the treeline, maneuvering through the forest in silence. He had caught sight of a relatively large family of Pyropan in the distance. They resided by an apparent cliffside, approximately a quarter mile forward.
He waved his arm, preforming a motion that suggested the immediate reduction of speed. The Drakonrhedi behind him complied. He made it evident that he was seeking refuge on a tree, Aphex rolling towards a prodigious branch and latching onto the frosted bark. He waited for the others to mirror him before speaking.
"There's a group of Pyropan just a little ways ahead. I expect you all to be ready for combat shortly."
He received many nods of acknowledgement. He withdrew a bow from its quiver before proceeding.
"I'll go in for the center. While they're distracted, I want you to take out my flanks. Understand?"
More nods of agreement were sent his way.
"Good. Be ready."
Airborne in an instant, Rudin made less of an attempt at keeping their discretion. Aphex barreled through the trees, ripping past the branches and swerving around the trunks with ease. He remained fitted upright, his body leaning into every curve as his feet remained planted firmly in their stirrups. He plowed through the span of trees, sliding into the open as Aphex let off a battle cry.
The Pyropan diverted their attention towards him.
He smirked at them. "Hello lovelies," He cooed, pulling the string of his bow to his ear as he hastily charged the arrow with an electrical pulse. Sparks danced on its metallic surface, ready to pulverize anything it touched.
He let the arrow fly. It sneaked through the group of raptors, lodging itself in a vulnerable eye socket.
The electricity flared. The Pyropan screeched.

| | "Kvrai-"
"I'm telling you, Xii, I'm not joking!"The OAI let out a laugh. The conversation was all inside the Promethaen's head, of course, and thus she constrained her replies to thoughts, despite the fact that the wind shielded any of the humans around her from hearing a murmured response. Why waste effort when she could just speak with Xii through her thoughts? Despite this, the two of them did make an effort to converse in the tongue of the humans. It was good practice for Kvrai--thinking in another language made you fluent much more quickly. "Your impulses are getting weirder by the day, Kvrai. Maybe it's something in the atmosphere."The Silverblooded let out a tiny scoff. "Although I doubt that's the precise explanation, my desire to eat an entire lamb raw must be explained somehow. Perhaps we should send a note in the next transmission to the Halcyon."A sense of disapproval came from Xii. "And I doubt that the folks back home will take kindly to the Eye of the Infinite acting weirdly.""At least to Tzintl, then."
"Sounds appropriate."Beneath her, Vadaris rumbled at Rudin's signal, catching the Promethaen's attention. She glanced up to find that the Pryfektus leading them had stopped. She tapped her heels on the drake's flanks to signal her attention. He slowed his speed, swooping up like a raptor to latch onto the vertical bark of the tree. Kvrai turned her gaze to the Pryfektus. "There's a group of Pyropan just a little ways ahead. I expect you all to be ready for combat shortly." She nodded her understanding, all that was required. "I'll go in for the center. While they're distracted, I want you to take out my flanks. Understand?" That meant she could go for two kills, if she felt like it. However, she doubted she'd want to exercise her full power. Part of being undercover and all. "Good. Be ready." There was no way they wouldn't be. The humans were, after all, walking into behemoth territory. They were so frail, yet somehow so brave. It was an interesting combination. A bad one, at times. "So let's avoid any sort of overly flashy theatrics today."Kvrai grimaced. She hated not being able to do whatever with her powers. "I refrain from any oaths.""Kvrai..." Xii reached out magically, connecting with Vadaris's mind. The drake hummed his greetings, earning a quick scratch behind the ears. "You cannot blow cover.""I'm not about to sit here and be bored out of my mind, Xii."
"Well, you'll have to figure out a way."
"There's a line!"
"One that gets thinner by the moment."Vadaris shuffled his wings, then dove from the tree, catching the wind with ease. "At least don't use your magic."
"Wasn't about to, Xii."Kvrai glanced up, eyes tracing a route through the branches. Vadaris shot upwards, following her planned trajectory, gracefully winding through the tree branches, not even his wingtips brushing against the foliage. She glanced down, finding that the Pryfektus had drawn the pyropan's attention quite nicely. She conveyed her battle plan to Vadaris, who rumbled his approval. "I never know with you. Don't you think that's a bit flashy for an Iduneus?""Xii," she murmured out loud. "It's just my style."Vadaris spread out his wings for a moment, holding them upside down. Then he curled in the tips and dove, spiraling downwards. They came in perpendicular to Pyropan's spine, and at the vertex of their dive, Vadaris spread his wings fully, stalling them for a second--just long enough for Kvrai, blades drawn, to leap off. She landed on her toes, rolling out the impact, and took in her surroundings. She was on the behemoths' hindquarters, a fact which she moved to change, dashing up the spine of the pyropan, blades outstretched to keep her balance. It thrashed beneath her, head curling around to snap at her. She rolled underneath the blow, tracing one sword along the velociraptor-esque thing's chin. In return, it screeched and shook itself. Kvrai just barely got her blades into its hide on time, slipping her swords underneath its scales and gripping the handles to keep her balance. "Eh, you surly thing. Stop it." Her voice was a growl. As it ceased thrashing, she sprinted the last few meters to its head, diving forward with both swords leading, planting them underneath the behemoth's skull and ripping them outwards. With a guttural gurgle, the beast slumped forward. Kvrai withdrew her blades, riding it down just in time to hear another Iduneus call: "Titanothain!" Her head snapped towards the behemoth, bloodied swords at the ready. "Isn't this getting interesting quickly."Vadaris dove down from where he'd been circling above, snatching her up in his claws and literally tossing her into the air. She flipped as he banked sharply, swooping down to catch her on his back as she fell. The titanothain roared out a challenge as Vadaris circled up next to the Pryfektus. "So, battle plan?"Tags: Rudin SveinssonInspiration: I DON'T EVEN HAVE ANY IT SUCKS Notes: I'M SO SORRY

Loureen sat on Ellie, the drake's wings busy keeping them airborne. They went in small circles, neither rider nor drake content to wait in one place for any period of time.
"I'll go in for the center. While they're distracted, I want you to take out my flanks. Understand?" ))
She nodded. Well, this should be fun. She held her rifle at the ready, prepared to blast any and all behemoths sky-high (or, as feasibly sky-high as you can blast a behemoth with small arms fire.)
The Pryfektus loosed an arrow, and Loureen immediately found her mark -- One of the pyropan was looking her way. She aimed for a moment, and fired. Smoke poured forth from the barrel, and Ellie snorted.
The Pyropan stumbled as its eye exploded, the socket now home to a bullet. I need to start keeping score. She fired again, trying to land another bullet in the weeping crater the first round had made. Her first shot missed, but the second found its mark. The Pyropan fell to the ground and was promptly riddled with bullets and arrows from the other Drakonrhedi.
As she settled back into the saddle, reloading in a smooth and practiced motion, she looked up momentarily. Oh, boy. Mister big, pink, and ugly is here. She immediately called it out to the assembled Drakonrhedi, and took aim at it. The bullets she loosed found no purchase in its thick skin, and she nudged Ellie onwards, trying to get closer, looking for a weakness for a moment, before circling back into the battle formation, to the Pryfektus. She overheard another Iduneus speaking.
"So, battle plan?"))
"Let's shoot it, and see what happens!"
Giant nose-slits flared as she drew close once more. That's it. She took aim, and immediately discharged every round she had loaded.
Several bullets pinged off the titanothain's armor, but one round flew true and disappeared into the titanothain's nose slit. The beast immediately fell over its legs gave out, likely a consequence of its brain having a leaden visitor. "That's what I'm talkin' about!" She cheered, and Ellie flew a wide circle triumphantly.
((Here, have this. I have the sinking feeling I screwed up somewhere but I am not gonna look for it because I'll go insane if I don't find it. LOOOOVE YOU GUYS.))

Rudin watched the Iduneus follow through with his plan, the Pyropan dropping like flies beneath the wrath of the Drakonrhedi. The scout was going swimmingly. A smirk washed over his features, the scene concluding before his very eyes. Perhaps this would be a quick day? He wasn't always able to hitch such experienced slayers.
"Titanothian!"
The Pryfektus sighed, turning around with some amount of reluctance. Of course, the "nosy" beast had to get in on the action. A woman swung beside him, blood delicately lacing her skin.
"So, battle plan?"
His gaze shifted from her to the beast, his grasp tightening around his reins.
"Why don't you go ahead and distract it, while I-"
"Let's shoot it, and see what happens!"
His sentence was cut short by another woman, who had ultimately decided to take action without his prior consent. It didn't mind him very much; he was somewhat lenient towards these things. He was a strong believer in getting things done, no matter what methods were used towards its completion.
He watched as she let loose an entire round, bullets spewing towards the beast as they lodged themselves in its highly sensitive nostrils. It collapsed within in a few moments.
"That's what I'm talkin' about!"
"Impressive," He mused, just loud enough so that the circling woman could hear him. Her victory lap would be short-lived.
"Kanpol!"
Rudin's gaze immediately fell to the ground, acknowledging the smaller creatures on the surface. There were perhaps a dozen, likely having been attracted to the rather noisy mess the Drakonrhedi made. "Honestly? Who invited those guys?"
His head swung behind his shoulder, saying, "Really, just take 'em out. I trust you know what to do."
With that, the Pryfektus made a dire plunge to the ground, an arrow rapidly spinning towards a Kanpalu's far too susceptible cranium. He hadn't bothered to zap the poor thing - it was on the ground in an instant, the projectile having carved into its heedless brain.

| | "Why don't you go ahead and distract it, while I-" Vadaris rumbled beneath her as the Titanothain bellowed out a battle cry, thundering their way. They didn't have long. "Let's shoot it, and see what happens!" "This appears to be your type of plan, mistress," Xii commented. Kvrai grinned, kicking Vadaris into motion. The drake snorted gleefully and lunged forward, Kvrai grasping the reins firmly and standing in the saddle to better square herself for possible combat maneuvers. Beside her, the other Iduneus thumbed a rifle. The Promethaen processed this swiftly, sending Vadaris veering off to the other side. The Titanothain inhaled deeply, air reverberating through its huge nostril slits in a rumbling, vibrating snort. Normally, she would stick this in the 'overdramatics' section, but for a predator that hunted by scent, it was just worrying. To a human, at least. "Beware. It may be able to sense your Promethaen blood."
"Not with this much human scent on me. I haven't been properly cleaned for a while, Xii. It will smell only human and drake."She shot nearer, the Titanothain stuck between two targets as the massive nostrils sniffed the air once more. "Oy, bunghole! Over here!"The behemoth snorted and lunged, opening itself up to the other Iduneus as Vadaris dropped like a stone, jaws whistling closed with a smack just behind the drake's tail. At the same time, the repeated clap of gunfire and bullets pinging alerted Kvrai to the fact that the Iduneus on the other side of their opponent had opened fire. It seemed that at least one bullet flew true, and the behemoth gurgled in an almost pathetic manner before toppling. "That's what I'm talkin' about!" Kvrai simply gave her drake a quick scratch of approval. Although she was uncertain what to think of these humans, she had already determined that the drakes her ancestors had fabricated served their purpose admirably. Of course. Anything of Promethaen make was far superior to anything else you might find in the area. Vadaris caught up with the cheering Iduneus just as the call of "Kanpol!" interrupted their victory lap. The Pryfektus didn't seem entirely amused. "Honestly? Who invited those guys?" "Well, aren't we having a party," she mused aloud. "Really, just take 'em out. I trust you know what to do." The Promethaen chuckled. "Mistress-""Of course we do.""-you must exercise-""I'll be right back. I've got some cats to herd. I trust you, sir, and hot-shot over here can cover me." She sent the command to Vadaris. "-caution so that you don't blow cover!""Relax, Xii."Vadaris plummeted, matching pace with the wildly snarling group of charging Kanpol. They were tightly packed together, fanning out in a vague diamond shape. Kvrai selected her target, relaying it to the drake. "You're here to study humans, not take out your boredom on behemoths!" "And I will study them, but currently my mission is getting in the way of my true motive. And thus these behemoths must be cleared with efficiency." The OAI was entirely too flustered to reply as Vadaris accelerated, wings pumping furiously. She leaped, landing solidly on the back of a kanpolu. Its neighbor snarled at her, eyes narrowing. "Whoop," she said. Kvrai jumped off the kanpolu she rode just as the behemoth next to it pounced, bringing the two down in a tangled mass of cat-behemoth, enabling the circling Drakonrhedi to pick them off. Vadaris, meanwhile, had dipped down, grabbing her and tossing her towards the next kanpolu, furthering her momentum to land on the suddenly confused behemoth. She didn't hesitate with this one, drawing a blade and ruthlessly stabbing it beneath the monster's spine and ripping outwards, severing the cord. The kanpolu plowed into the ground face-first as Kvrai nimbly dashed down its hindquarters, leaping sword-first onto the bewildered behemoth behind it. She landed atop that cat's face, stabbing out its eyes with a yowl. As her current mount tripped over the behemoth she'd just downed, she used its forward momentum to spring her to the front line again, to a kanpolu she hadn't touched yet with a grin, landing squarely between its shoulder blades. Loureen cut her victory lap off as her superior complimented her shot.
"Impressive,"
You're damn right it was impressive! I practiced for that! Well, not that specifically, but, for stuff like that!
She looked down on the new pack of behemoths, lazily reloading and leaning back in Ellie's saddle. The Pryfektus dove low and loosed an arrow, and she went on reloading her rifle like nothing had happened (or, if something had happened, that it wasn't out of the ordinary.)
As she finished up, another Iduneus flew up to her and her superior, then spoke.
"I'll be right back. I've got some cats to herd. I trust you, sir, and hot-shot over here can cover me."
What? You can't herd cats.
Her brain ticked for a moment. Anyone looking could have seen the gears turning in her head.
Oh. That's the point.
She busied herself firing at any behemoths who looked like they weren't quite paying enough attention to getting shot at.
Loureen looked down to see the Iduneus going what she would probably call "Full man-mode" on some of the kanpolu. She could probably could have shot at the kanpolu without killing her, but at the same time she was moving so quickly down there it was possible that she would move into a bullet, and Loureen really didn't want to explain that.
She flew up next to her superior, reloading again. "Whaddya want, boss?"
((Note: Hideous levels of apology))

"I'll be right back. I've got some cats to herd. I trust you, sir, and hot-shot over here can cover me."
"By all means," Rudin replied, gesturing towards the compacted felines below.
He watched as the woman plowed into battle, shredding their foes in one fell swoop. She managed to dislodge one of the spines! Even the Kanpol took her massacre into account, their morales plummeting as they began to pull away from the scene.
"Ah ah ah! Don't think we'll let you off the hook so easy," He called, confronting a retreating Kanpolu. He swung beside it in an instant, sliding into its vision as he embraced its cold glare.
He offered a tut tut, Aphex pulling away from its gnashing jaws after he successfully fit an arrow into his bow. He enforced its leave rather suddenly, the arrow whizzing towards the frenzied cat. It slid into its agape maw all at once. The roar it projected was silenced, the arrow having lodged itself in the back of the beast's throat.
"Whaddya want, boss?"
He turned to see the "hot-shot" sitting beside him. "Nothing in particular. Just take out the rest of the Kanpol. If we're lucky, that should be the last of them."
He sent Aphex flying forward, loosing another arrow at a hissing fiend.

Kvrai the Silverblooded | "Mistress, this is a terrible idea!"
Kvrai sighed, ducking beneath a leaping kanpol as it attempted to swat her off of her current mount.
"Relax, Xii. I've got this covered."
"Quite contrariwise! You're going to blow your cover!"
She growled. "What am I supposed to do? I'm actually comfortable in this form, for once. I can have some fun!"
"Not if it's going to endanger your entire mission, you can't!"
"Xii, they don't even know we exist. What danger am I in?"
"The danger of the humans realizing that this is not what normal humans do!"
Kvrai muttered a grievance towards her all-too-sensible OAI. "Fine. I'll pull out."
She thrust her blade forward, stabbing out the kanpol's jugular before leaping up. Xii had already contacted Vadaris, and the drake swept in, catching his mistress by her arm.
His wings pumped furiously, bringing them up to the level of the tree branches. He deposited her on one before twirling sharply to come out beneath the branch, at which point she leaped onto his back. After she was secured, she sheathed her blades.
Glancing around, she found that the other Iduneus and Pryfektus had taken down a couple more kanpolu. The rest of the Drakonrhedi also appeared to have done their jobs, the pack almost entirely depleted of the beasts.
She tapped Vadaris with her heels and he dropped into formation beside her conversation partners.
"So, boss. We stopping for lunch?"
"Kvrai!"
"What? I'm hungry!"
