WILDLIFE
Carvaran - s.
Carvarai - p.
Noun; Mammal
Wolf-like creatures with increased speed and dexterity. They are nocturnal animals and extremely volatile. Carvarai have six legs and talon-like claws. They travel in large hunting parties, but never truly a “pack” as there are no alphas. There are two sub-species within the Carvarai.
Viper Carvaran -
The Viper Carvaran has an extremely evolved trait that allows them to mix their blood cells and nearly shut down all systems. This allows the Viper Carvaran to become nearly completely invisible. It takes a trained eye to see the barely-there outline of an invisible Viper Carvaran. This special skill can be maintained only for short bursts of time, but does not appear to drain the Carvaran of energy.
Wasp Carvaran -
The Wasp Carvaran has a genetically evolved trait that gives them a self-healing enzyme in their blood. They are incredibly difficult to kill, as you must inflict extreme damage in a very short amount of time or completely destroy vital organs (i.e. the heart, spinal cord, brain, etc.) Their muzzle is also slightly larger than the Viper Carvaran, and their teeth are in rows, similar to a shark’s.
Muris - s.
Murin - n.
Noun; Mammal
The Murin are similar to large lemurs, being approximately the same size as a human child. They have four upper arms and two legs, each limb having opposable digits on their hands or feet. The Murin are not often aggressive, but can become agitated if their food, offspring or well-being is played with. Murin travel in groups varying from three all the way to fifteen murin to a group. When reports of murin attacking have occurred, it has happened with the entire group chasing down their prey and beating them to death with their strength which is similar to that of a bodybuilder, despite their lean exterior. Murin are herbivores.
Icthoid - s.
Icthoids - p.
Noun; Fish
Icthoids are a large piranha-like creature that lives in nearly any bed of water on the planet. Its head features two large, protruding red eyes that can see for long distances underwater in dim light. It also features a disconcertingly humanoid false face (used to befuddle or frighten would-be predators) that is created by folds at the top of the skull. The mouth is filled with triangular, blade-like teeth. When stimulated by prey or predators, it can reach high speeds by gyrating its flexible sides, much like a manta ray. It also has two flipper fins extruding from either side just beyond the head that are used for propulsion and steering. It's easily as deadly as many of its land-dwelling counterparts.
Sker'ish -s/p.
Noun; Cnidaria
The sker’ish is an unusual life-form that has characteristics reminiscent of a jellyfish. However, these creatures appear to be able to float above ground, riding on even the smallest of breezes to get from place to place. Their sting is extremely venomous, and has effects similar to a highly powerful chlorine gas. This poison also has the wonderful effects of repelling behemoths, specifically the Titanothains with their sensitive sense of smell. However, it is extremely difficult to imprison the sker’ish and for unknown reasons, it can only be done with magic. Only the Drakonrhedi know how to truly trap them. Sker’ish are considered a good omen, and are handled with an awed fear by most.
BEHEMOTHS
A quick note about behemoth reproduction: behemoths continue to grow throughout their lives. They do have genders, and they all lay eggs. Normal nests are extremely well hidden and guarded by one parent at each time. Mating patterns vary as per species.
Titanothain - s/p.
Noun; Behemoth
The Titanothain are monstrous creatures. They tower to approximately 6.5 meters with a length of 11 meters. Their skin is a mottled and scabbed pink that secretes a clear mucous. These creatures have no eyes, but carry seven slits in their head that act as a nose. The Titanothain’s sense of smell is extremely powerful and acts as a second sight for these four legged creatures. They track humans by literally smelling fear -- or more precisely, the pheramones that accompany it. They are extremely erratic and unpredictable.
Pyropan - s/p.
Noun; Behemoth
Pyropan are reminiscent of velociraptors, except they are specifically designed to be able to kill the human race, and are much, much larger. Standing at a maximum of seven meters, these behemoths are massive. They are most commonly seen at night, traveling in pairs of two or three. The Pyropan have a special poison unique to them that is located in their saliva. It has paralytic properties, but is well known for its hallucinogenic tendencies.
Kanpalu - s.
Kanpol - p.
Noun; Behemoth
Kanpol are large, panther like creatures. At a mere five meters, they are the smallest of the behemoths, and also the single most common. Kanpol are extremely territorial creatures that travel in groups of ten or eleven Kanpol to one hunting party. In addition to conventional ripping and tearing, the Kanpalu can also deliver a lethal blow from its armored tail. The kanpol’s senses are so highly developed that, depending on atmospheric conditions, they can detect prey up to thirteen kilometers away. It also has an armored neck and back, a massive distensible jaw, and twenty-three centimeter long sharp teeth. The upper lip folds back for maximum tooth extension.
Scornip - s.
Scornips - p.
Noun; Behemoth
So named due to their similarities to Scorpions, Scornips are extremely large anthropod-like beasts. They are very well armored, with a reinforced exo-skeleton that secretes a black, foul smelling mucus. Unlike the titanothain, this mucus serves a purpose to the Scornips: It has extremely powerful healing properties that are often used in more expensive medicines. The Scornips are extremely flexible creatures that can roll into balls to travel more quickly, the speed varying on momentum and angle.
Chorata - s/p
Noun; Behemoth
Chorata are the second rarest of the Behemoths, only to the Titanothains. They are extremely powerful aerial demons, their wingspan reaching nearly six meters. These aerial predators are covered in large feathers that are naturally white, but are often stained red due to the behemoth’s habit of literally bathing in the blood of their prey. Their beaks are long and pointed, a slight hook at the end that is used to easily shred human skin, muscle and bone. While it appears that the prey of choice for all other behemoths are humans, these bird-like monsters seem to favor an appetite for the drakes.
Dy’ri s./p.
Noun; Behemoth
The Dy’ri is the largest behemoth, with each of it’s four flippers totaling to three meters, it’s body coming to a resounding length of fifteen meters. The people of earth thank the stars for the fact that the Dy’ri is restricted to water. While it is insanely powerful and large, it is almost limited by the speed which it can travel, only managing 10 mph. Their teeth are similar to that of a Viper Caravaran: in many, many rows and extremely sharp. Their hide is very thick, making these behemoths among the single hardest to kill.
Bovterpis
Pl: Bovterpi
(designed by Thorn as a prize)
Bovterpi resemble ordinary cattle, but they are larger- about six metres at the shoulder- and they have no fur. Instead their skin is wrinkled, fleshy, and oozes a slime that can burn through clothes and skin. Their mouths are so crammed full of large, sharp fangs that many specimens are unable to close them fully. As if this wasn't enough; they also constantly drool the same substance excreted through their skin. The black souless eyes of a Bovterpis are surprisingly sharp and, while they are slow, these creatures are excellent persistence hunters. They will track a target for days if need be.
